The History Of Calvin Klein

By Tamarstylist @tamarstylist

As we stock Calvin Klein nightwear, we have decided to dedicate this week’s blog to the history of Calvin Klein.

Born on the 19th of November 1942 in New York, Klein was a student at The High School of Design and Art in Manhattan where he met Barry K. Schwartz, and embarked on the journey of becoming a world renowned fashion designer.

After an apprenticeship and five years of designing for other brands, Calvin and Barry joined forces to create Calvin Klein Inc. in 1968. The fashion brand started off as a coat line for men and women with $10,000 worth of investment. In 1969, Klein appeared on the cover of Vogue Magazine and by 1971 he had expanded his clothing line to lingerie, sportswear and classic blazers.

Winning their first fashion award in 1973 Klein and Schwartz carried on their success where their annual revenue had increased to $30 million in 1977. The company then signed a licence for scarves, boots, sunglasses, belts, furs, sheets, cosmetics, menswear and most famously; Jeans.

In 1978,Klein’s first Jean’s line was sold out within a week of going on sale and its success has carried on to the present day with the likes of Brooke Shields, Andie MacDowell, Mark Wahlberg, KateMoss, Freddie Ljungberg, Eva Mendes, Kellan Lutz, Scarlett Johansson and LaraStone all modelling for the famous fashion house.

With an estimated net worth of $700 million, Calvin Klein has been one of the most endorsed fashion labels in the world!
