It’s no secret that we here at MCU love Sammy Rae. She’s talented, inspirational, and constantly pushing her own musical limits. And now, she’s back with a new EP, The Good Life. Featuring her singles “Kick It To Me” and album title “Good Life,” the EP is complete with five songs that are jazzy, upbeat, and sensual. The wonderful cadences of Sammy Rae’s voice are more apparent than ever. She could be singing her ABCs and I would hate to be interrupted from listening.
The EP opens with “The Feeling,” which has a musicality that makes it one of my two favorites on the album. The sounds are easy and wonderful and I just want to dance. The track wants me to be transported–in time, in place–to see Sammy Rae perform this at a club. Cue rom-com movie montage.
“Good Life” has a slower, smoother tempo. It utilizes more instruments that continue to make Sammy Rae stand out. The lyrics and content are also very true to the artist, and I can hear the mantra of just living life that Sammy Rae is trying to convey.
“Flesh and Bone” does not draw me in as much, however. The vocals are strong, showing great range, but something about the underlying beat does not hold me.
“Talk It Up” is the other favorite of mine. Just writing about it makes me want to play it over and over again. Again, there’s some kind of movie magic element to its sound, and Sammy Rae’s vocals are also mesmerizing.
“Kick It To Me,” though a single, and full of musicality, also does not attract me as much. The others just have bigger factors that standout for me and truly make me hit that “repeat” button.
As a whole, Sammy Rae kills it on this EP. The Good Life is just that, full of life and an incredibly amount of potential. Check it out now on Spotify.
