TBC Donut-Eating Contest ~ Weekend in Review

By Laura @BEBookworm

This is actually only what went down on Sunday, since Saturday, my in-laws took us shopping at Costco. We got lots of food (and socks for both of us, because why not?)

Box
Chad and I went to pick up our first (of many) Melanie’s Rainbow organic food box. Lots of great stuff. Chad made an amazing coconut curry lentil soup with the butternut squash and potatoes.

Pizza Bun
I was running SO late to get to Through Being Cool Vegan Baking Co. for their first Donut-Eating Contest, but they thankfully hadn’t started yet. Most things were sold out though, so I settled on this yummy jalapeno pizza bun for my lunch. Good and spicy!

Donut eating
The participants each raised $100 for the Walk for Farm Animals(and you can donate too on the right) in order to enter. The only one I knew was Amy on the end. I think they should have been given more than 3 minutes, considering how big the donuts were and that they ain’t professionals or anything. Amy ate 1 1/2 donuts in 3 minutes and the winner ate 4 of the dozen given.

Donut-Off
There was a tie for first (4 donuts) so they had a donut-off, using cute (big) donuts shaped like pig noses. Their strategy was dipping the donuts in the water. The guy on the left won, and I felt bad for the other guy, as his girlfriend thought they were going to Farm Sanctuary for a good 2 minutes.

Winning
I stuck around for the raffle held by the Walk for Farm Animals. My number wasn’t pulled but the girl who won this prize doesn’t have a dog, so she gave it to me. I don’t think Luna will do well with group walks though, so I’m going to ask if I can redeem it for cat visits instead. I also picked up the new Veg Directory because, despite handing out dozens and dozens of them during the Veg Food Fest, I didn’t take one home. Silly me.

Donuts
Donuts! Oh man, the chocolate toffee crunch ones were so good. I missed them at the Veg Food Fest.

salad
A gorgeous big salad for dinner with Back at the Ranch Dressing from Terry Romero’s Salad Samurai. (Now that we have a new Blendtec, thanks to my in-laws, I can’t wait to make more creamy dressings, without the chunks).
