Supernatural Episode Review: Keep Calm and Carry On

Saving People. Hunting things. The family business…?

First off guys, let’s just take a moment and bask in the awesomeness that we are in season 12 of Supernatural. This is just unheard of for this type of series. Go ahead everyone, give yourself a nice pat on the back because we did GOOD.

Ok let’s get down to business…

Momma is home and finally out of that god awful nightgown. I don’t know about all of you but I am so happy to have her join the hunt with her sons. That scene with her seeing “Baby” again was both emotional and hilarious at the same time. It’s a brave new world out there and luckily Mary has Cas to share in her confusion with technology. Having her back in Sam and Dean’s life is going to be a wonderful new dynamic. Her relationship with the boys grounds them and gives them back their connection to humanity. I feel they may have lost that along the way. It is just the beginning friends and we ain’t see nothing yet.

We always seem to catch ourselves saying “poor Sam” but the writers always seem to give us good reason to say it. Poor Sam. The international chapter of “The Men of Letters” are proving themselves to be quite the problem. But you can’t out match our boy. He will withstand any torture and outwit any challenge you can throw at him. Hang in there Sam, your family is coming to get you.

On the other side of things, Crowley is back with vengeance and Cas isn’t messing around. Both our favorites are on their own missions. I can’t get enough of Castiel’s urgency to find Sam. He is just barreling through every lead and not hesitating to do whatever it takes to help Dean and Mary bring Sam home. We didn’t get to see much of Crowley this episode, but he seems to be right on the devil’s heels. The next episode promises to show us the start of Lucifer’s shenanigans.

This was a great start to season 12. It had the perfect balance of emotion, action, and comedy that keeps us wanting more. Let me know your thoughts on the season premiere in the comment section and check out the promo video below for a preview of next week’s episode.
