Since running out of my beloved No7 Anti-Blemish serum, I have been the look out for cheaper serums that do that same job. This one from the Simply Pure range by Superdrug sounds like it could fit the bill…
The Simply Pure range from Superdrug is great for sensitive skin as the products don’t have any nasties in like parabens or harsh chemicals and are also fragrance free. They are also suitable for vegetarians and vegans so their Oil Balancing serum sounded like it could stand in until I get something else.
The packaging and the price of this serum is very cheap, but the product inside is really rather nice. A thicker, more creamier texture than the No7 one, this is designed to help moisturise oily and combination skin whilst keeping it matte and preventing clogged pores. You can apply it in the morning and night, whereas I prefer just at night as part of my night time skincare routine.
It feels soft and gently nourishing, sinks in super quickly and does leave the skin feeling very matte and soft. It is great to apply after a hot shower or bath and it luckily hasn’t brought me out in any blemishes since using it. Even though it is helping keep my skin fresh and relatively clear, I don’t think this will replace the one from No7. That one is just more hydrating, more healing and really changes the skin. This is keeping up appearances but I don’t feel that it is improving my skin any further.
But, if you are on a tight budget and want to try a serum to see how your skin copes then I would definitely recommend this. Before spending lots of money on something try a cheaper version to see how you like it. And this is a great starting point.
