Of course, blazing sunshine makes almost anywhere look attractive but actually Sidmouth was a tiny delight. Not the least of its attractions is that it made me feel young, by which I mean that the 'Memsahib' and I plus our two friends, all in our 70s, lowered the average age in Sidmouth by about 10 years! The other instant attraction is that it passed my tattoo test and by that I mean that in strolling along the promenade and into the main shopping streets I saw only one tattooed body! Actually, the shops, on the whole, were a bit shabby but at the western end of the seafront there are some very nice hotels with magnificent sculptured gardens and we enjoyed a delicious lunch at one of them whilst sitting on their handsome sun-terrace. Finally, and I canot stress this excellent characteristic strongly enough - 'kiddie-winkies' were virtually non-existent! Need I say more?
