Summer 2014: Hair Care Routine

By Urhappybunnie @joaniebunnie
Hi ladies! I know I haven't been doing reviews lately but I seriously am trying myself how long I can hold back from buying makeup. LMAO. I've been on a makeup ban since January and wow, it has almost been 6 months since I bought anything makeup or skin care related. I'm in the process of testing out some skin care and makeup products sent to me so stay tuned for beauty reviews. I promise they will be up soon! ^^
I have never done a hair care routine post so I'm finally putting one up. Mind you, I have some products here that came from the same brand and the same line - I am not paid to rave about these products and these products were purchased by me.
Before we head on to the products I'm currently using for my hair, let me first tell you about my hair. My hair is fine, of regular thickness and long. When straightened, it reaches about 3 inches below my bust. I naturally have black hair but I've dyed it lighter shades with box dyes and I have never bleached my hair. The primary problems with my hair and scalp are dryness. My scalp are so dry that it causes dandruff but it has been greatly minimized by a certain product I will mention later on. I also love curling my hair so heat styling paired with color treatment caused me split ends. My hair is not severely damaged but products that moisturizes the hair is always welcome.
I hope this hair care routine will help you ladies with the same hair type to find a product that will help you minimize and repair your damaged hair.

HAIR TREATMENT
Summer 2014: Hair Care Routine
I have been a big fan of LUSH products though it is fairly pricey - who could say no to vegan and organic products that works? ROOTS is a hair treatment that you apply on your dry roots (to state the obvious), leave it on for around 20 minutes before washing the hair. Roots smells minty so it is very refreshing. I have repurchased this product around three times already because of how great it works on my hair and scalp.
So what does ROOTS actually do? It actually revitalizes fine and thin hair. Roots follow the principle of having a healthy scalp helps the hair grow healthily. Because of this product, my dandruff actually diminished greatly and my hair started growing really fast. (the only reason why my hair seemed to remain the same length for the past few months was because I kept trimming the ends for at least once a month for about half an inch to an inch). I wash my hair every other day, every 2 days at most and I always put Roots on my scalp before I wash my hair.

Another hair treatment that I use at least every 2 weeks is a combination of Argan Oil and Coconut Oil. I use Organix Argan Oil of Morocco and Nutiva Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. It actually doesn't matter what brand you use but Argan Oil and Coconut Oil have great moisturizing properties to hydrate your hair. If Roots is to the roots, then this combo of Argan and Coconut Oil is for your dry ends.
In a small bowl, mix around 1 tablespoon of Argan Oil and 1 tablespoon of Coconut oil. Mix them and apply on the ends of your dry hair. Leave it on for around 20 mins or longer. What I usually do is apply Roots on my scalp and then apply the oils on my ends, put my hair up in a bun and do some chores while I pass the time and then wash my hair.
Tip: If you are going to an event or you just want your hair to have an extra boost, put this oil combo on your hair the night before, place it in a bun and hair cap and sleep on it.
SHAMPOO:

Another LUSH hair product that I love is Rehab. I only use Rehab once a week, sometimes once every two weeks. It's a great shampoo and I really love it but it is more of a deep cleansing shampoo. It is great for your scalp if you have too much oil build up. Using it as a regular shampoo dries out my scalp and actually gives more dandruff so I only use it once every week or two weeks.
For my regular shampoo, I use L'Oreal Total Repair Reconstructing Shampoo. I was previously using the Tresemme Keratin Shampoo but I stopped when I discovered this. This in conjunction with the conditioner, mask and balm makes my hair so soft.and silky.
CONDITIONER & MASKS:

L'Oreal Total Repair Extreme Reconstructing Conditioner is probably the best drugstore conditioner I've ever tried. It is thicker and slightly mousse-y in consistency unlike other drugstore conditioners. It gives great hydration for the hair even by itself. I use this every time I wash my hair except when I'm using the Emergency Recovery Mask. I generally leave conditioners on my hair for around 3 minutes before rinsing.
L'Oreal Total Repair Extreme Emergency Recovery Mask is something very similar to the conditioner, hence I don't use the conditioner whenever I use this mask. I only use this mask once a week.
The last product is the L'Oreal Total Repair 5 Damage Erasing Balm. I use this balm every time I wash my hair regardless whether I'm using the conditioner or the recovery mask. I just apply it on my hair after everything else, leave it on for a good 5 minutes and rinse.
Tip: Rinse your conditioners with cool or cold water. It closes up your cuticles and seals the moisture. For more info check this article on the benefits of rinsing hair with cold water.
I usually just towel and air-dry my hair because I absolutely despise using the hair dryer unless necessary. I find that my hair is more manageable and isn't frizzy when I just leave it to air dry. This way, there's less heat damage from the hair dryer.
With my hair still damp, I apply about a quarter size of Organix Argan Oil to my ends. Sometimes I would even put a dime size of Coconut Oil to my ends for extra moisture. Don't go overboard with coconut oil because it will weigh your hair down.
For styling, I use my Remington T-Studio Ceramic Curling Wand for curling and Remington T-Studio Ceramic Elliptical Wand for waves and I use the Tresemme Thermal Creations Heat Tamer leave in Spray or the Tresemme Thermal Creation Curl Activator Spray. (Click on the links for reviews)
I'm not sure how the entire mechanism works but the combination of these products have certainly made my hair so much more healthy, soft, smooth and manageable.
I hope that you have found these helpful and if you have any more questions for me feel free to leave it in the comment. Also, let me know if there are products that you can recommend me. I would very much like to try it. I haven't gone into more expensive hair products yet just because these works perfectly right now but if you know any affordable products or even high end products that totally works it would be welcome. ^^
Always stay pretty!
