How many young people aren’t stuck in a sugar addiction, with all the problems that come with it? Toby was one of them.
Here’s his story about how he got himself a new life:
The Email
Hi!
I started to gain weight when I was only 8 years old, and I was probably a sugar addict already at that time. I’ve always sought comfort in candy, ice cream and especially high-carb foods like pasta – I’m like the king of pasta. I could eat spaghetti, macaroni and noodles, all in the same day and then repeat this day after day, week after week. As an evening snack I’d have potato chips or candy, and of course masses of soda, and I wasn’t able to stop, even though I felt so terribly awful.
In 2006, I weighed almost 200 lbs (90 kg), and then I started to skip carbohydrates as I had read about “Atkins”. In 2007, I managed to get down to 136 lbs (62 kg) and was happy with that, but my life was a complete mess and on top of my sugar addiction I also had an active substance abuse problem, and once again I lost myself and my weight derailed completely.
In early 2012, I stepped on the scale, and it read 249 lbs (113 kg), which is when I decided to start eating an LCHF diet. But I didn’t quite succeed in doing it, so I proceeded with just trying to cut down on carbs, but still having candy on weekends. This worked in the beginning, and in May 2012 the scale read 214 lbs (97 kg), where my weight then stayed for a very long time.
In early 2013, I got into drug abuse treatment and at the same time I decided to exercise more and be more active. As soon as I got back home from the rehabilitation center I stopped eating sugar, pasta, rice, potatoes, bread, refined grains and this has gone very well.
Nowadays I eat according to LCHF every day (have made just a few exceptions), and I feel so incredibly great. I’ve gone off the antidepressants and mood stabilizing medications. I’m diagnosed with ADHD and feel that both concentration and focus are so much better now, even though I stopped taking that medicine too.
The scale now reads 167 lbs (78 kg), still counting, and I feel that for every day that goes by, I’m approaching my goal. I’m not where I want to be just yet, but there aren’t that many pounds left. I’m now setting other goals, involving going to the gym and exercising, and it will be exciting with new challenges that I never dared to take up in the past.
