Spiced Hot Cocoa (Dairy Free)

By Irene Shaver @hhwife
In creating this recipe I learned that this is Hot Cocoa not Hot Chocolate as we grew up calling it.  Hot cocoa refers to a recipe using cocoa, where as hot chocolate is made with actual chocolate.  Makes sense really, now back to the recipe.  I had a craving for hot chocolate and wanted to spice it up a little.  I thought I would try it out on the girls and their friend who was here to play.  Turns out we all loved it.
Spiced Hot Cocoa (Dairy Free) There is nothing like drinking hot cocoa in fancy china. Ingredients (makes 4 servings)
  • 3 cups of coconut milk or other non dairy milk
  • 3 tablespoons raw cacao or cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons raw honey
  • 1 tablespoon palm sugar or more honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Directions
  1. Blend all ingredients together and then place in a sauce pan.
  2. Heat slowly while stirring.  If you are using raw ingredients just heat until warm in order to preserve the raw nutrients.
  3. Serve with a dash of cinnamon on top if desired.
