Solar Charger Inspired by the Ginkgo Tree

Posted on the 18 February 2014 by Anna Peterson

1.4 billion phones are charged daily and people are trying to find the best way to reduce the amount of electricity needed for this. The UK-based XD Design team accepted this challenge and created a solar powered phone and tablet charger called the Ginkgo Solar Tree.

Save energy with this solar charger!

This eco-friendly “tree” uses the energy of the Sun to charge any device connected to it. The charger measures 19.5 x 19.5 x 22 cm and features a sleek minimalist design. Three solar panels in the shape of leaves absorb solar energy and power the built-in 4,000mAh battery. Then, via an integrated USB port, you can charge your smartphone or tablet. Its base keeps your device firmly and securely in place. The Ginkgo Solar Tree is made of durable and bio-based materials and can charge your phone in mere two hours.

Those who helped raise money for this project by pledging about $100 will get their tree in March. Once the tree is released, it will cost about $160!
