“So Proud of the Results” on a Low-carb Diet

By Dietdoctor @DietDoctor1

After struggling with her weight for her whole life, Lori finally admitted to herself that she was a full-blown sugar addict. To her big surprise, she didn't get any objections from her doctor. Instead, he recommended her to go low carb.

She went home and started scouring the internet, and ended up at Diet Doctor. This is what happened after she decided to give it a go:

Hi Dr. Andreas,

Although I am not at my goal weight yet, I wanted to share my work in progress.

I am 54 years old and have struggled with being overweight for over 42 years. At one point or another, I tried every diet available with each one resulting in total failure. After each failure I always gained more weight than I started with. I half-heartedly threw in exercise here and there but I really dislike exercise, even though I knew it is what would be good for me in this journey.

Then I hit post menopause at age 46 and then menopause at age 50. Because EVERYTHING changed in my body, I tried to convince myself that I am what I am and therefore will always be obese. Very dark times.

I expected them to scoff at me like I was crazy but my doctor just looked at me in all seriousness and said "low carb".

Fast forward to March 2017 when I was at my heaviest (240 lbs - 109 kg); type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, fatty liver, etc. I was a mess and the results of my blood test at the time confirmed it. My doctor and I were blown away as to how high my numbers were from 3 months prior and then I became truly embarrassed. I declared that I wanted a retest, but was told I had to wait the standard 3 months. It was then that I announced to my doctor, my spouse, and myself that I was an out-of-control sugar addict. I expected them to scoff at me like I was crazy but my doctor just looked at me in all seriousness and said " low carb ".

My search for low carb brought me immediately to dietdoctor.com and the two-week challenge. I was intrigued and thought to myself that I can do two weeks and see what happens when I do take that blood retest. But first I needed to educate myself on what to expect.

Everything on this website peaked my interest (which does not normally happen) and before I knew it I was reading and watching everything available to me. So the challenge began. Within one week of starting the challenge, I had to stop taking my diabetes medicine because my sugar kept dropping so low. After stopping the medicine, I continued to test and document my blood sugar three or four times daily and was just tickled when the results were coming back between 80 and 90 mg/dl (4.4 and 5 mmol/L) each time!!!

In June, I went for my blood retest. This time I was not required to go in and speak with the doctor but I needed to see those results. When I received my copy, all my numbers were in the normal range! My doctor personally took the time to review them and wrote "WOW!", and "Keep doing what you are doing" after each one. I redeemed myself and was so proud of the results that I decided I was going to continue my new LCHF way of life.

Eating LCHF has proven to be the easiest weight/inch-loss program for me and most importantly, continues to be tasty and filling. There has been no purposeful cheating, no snacking required and I have more energy to get up and go. I can do my daily chores, go shopping, and just get outside without feeling completely exhausted. All without implementing an exercise regimen (Remember? I hate exercising!).

I have gone from wearing a size 22W-24W to a regular size 16 in this 6-month period and am excited to see what size I will be wearing when I reach my goal weight.

Thank you to you and your team for this website and for the knowledge you have given me and continue to give me daily.

Sincerely,
Lori
