SLEEP IN ROLLERS – GOODBYE SLEEPLESS NIGHTS, HELLO GREAT HAIR

IMAG0098

Hey There. I have been eyeing up these ‘Sleep In’ rollers for  a while now, there is nothing I love more than big, bouncy, volumised hair. I think most girls will agree, that getting ‘big’ hair can be quite a task, (Especially when you can’t style your hair in anyway apart from straight, – like me). AND rollers are most DEFINITELY the way forward.

I have been using ‘standard’ rollers for over a year now, (And when I say standard, I mean not the Velcro sleep in ones) the only problem being the fact that I have too much hair and never enough rollers. I only ever had 8 in my hair, (Because that’s all I owned), but because I was only looking for a bit of volume, (To get rid of my unwanted flat haired look) I never really thought I needed any more. I had read a few reviews on them, seen them on a few celebrities and of course heard all the hype around Christmas. But it wasn’t until I saw a friends hair  transformed by them that I became adamant I needed a set, (although it did take me several months to actually go and buy a set).

Now before I go on, I feel I should let you all know, that my hair is a bit of a nightmare when it comes to styling, not only am I useless at doing anything with my hair, but my hair type seems to be stubborn and awkward and clearly prefers to remain flat, straight and lifeless. My hair has always been the same, I remember having a friend put barrel curls in my hair when we were younger, (It took over 2 hours to do) and they dropped out within the hour, and this is something I am all to familiar with when it comes to my hair.

Having a wedding coming up and for the purposes of my blog review I wanted to try the ‘Sleep In’ rollers overnight, (As this was what they were designed for). Since buying them I have only ever stuck them in for a couple of hours before a night out, so this was my first attempt at sleeping in them, and wearing them for over 8 hours.

These ‘Sleep In’ rollers, are literally everywhere, they are marketed as being celebrities ‘only’ choice of roller, (Not their entourage of personal hair dressers I’m sure). They have been designed so that they flatten like a sponge when you sleep, ’letting you sleep in comfort and wake up to hair with body and bounce’.

The wedding was on Friday, so Thursday evening I started my usual beauty prep, painting my nails, shaving my legs and all that. I waited until just before bed to put the rollers in. I always start by applying the rollers to my roots, and then just shove in the rollers where I can, rolling under the hair and up, (No tail comb or specific sectioning required) I don’t think it matters too much if they look untidy. Within this set there were 20 rollers, (Of which still would not put all of my hair up), the best thing about these rollers, is their ability to stay still and in position. I always needed to use grips to keep my ‘standard’ rollers in place, but the ‘Velcro’ material latches on to the hair perfectly.

My sister gets ‘product happy’ with the gel spray prior to rolling her hair in to position, and finishes the look with hair spray – this gives her great volume but also curls that can last a couple of days. But for me I just wanted ‘Cheryl Cole’ like bouncy hair, but not so much the curls, so I just stuck to applying hair spray after the rollers were up and ready.

The Hair Spray of my choice being, ‘Schwarzkopf Got2b Glued Blasting Freeze Spray’ retailing at around £4.00, (Its Amazing).

I wasn’t too sure how I would sleep in them, but I was pretty tired by this point so luckily for me it didn’t take me too long to get to sleep after some tactical head positioning. My main worry was waking up with ridiculously curly hair, (As I was only looking for volume and bounce) or waking up with half the rollers hanging off my head or stuck to the pillow.

When I woke up in the morning I was surprised that all the rollers were still in place, with only two on the right hand side needing re-rolling. I took my hair out at the last point, (Just before getting in to my dress) and was happy with the results, (Although you probably wouldn’t think I had, put them in for over 8 hours). Knowing my hair type I was happy, although by the afternoon my ‘waves’ had dropped considerably and so had the volume, (I can’t complain too much though as it was still a lot better than my usual flat haired look).

Knowing my hair and looking at friends who also use the rollers, I can safely say that my hair doesn’t justify how good they are, if your hair is shorter than mine, and has layers, they will have a much better effect. Would I recommend them – Most definitely yes! Although you don’t need to sleep in them, and I can confirm that your sleep will be a lot more comfortable with out them.

‘Sleep In’ Rollers retailing at £17.99 from Argos.
