Hola!
With the recent Eyeconic colour collection that featured tri-colour eyeshadows and duo-coloured blushes, Shu Uemura also introduced 6 shades of Rouge Unlimited Supreme Matte Lipsticks (SGD$33). These 6 new shades have now joined the core collection of the existing 12 shades (which are listed on Shu Uemura’s Singapore website) and will be available permanently.
New Rouge Unlimited lipstick by Shu Uemura gives you our truest color payoff, with a unique non-sticky texture and ultra-smooth application. formulated with breakthrough technology, new rouge unlimited is available in an array of inspiring colors and formulated for long lasting supreme moisture, comfort and matte finish.
I would totally agree with Shu Uemura’s claim of comfort – once the lipstick is on, I really didn’t feel it at all. There is no waxy, sticky, clinging or even a coated feeling – I kind of forgot I actually had it on. I wore one of the shades out the entire day without needing a touch-up (then again, I rarely need to touch up any lipstick I wear, much to the annoyance of my friends and Mom especially).
The texture of the lipstick is really pretty unique; it is very different from the Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Intense Mat lipsticks which are my current loves (I have 3, with a feature coming soon!). The MUFE version feels more like a normal lipstick formula, only with a matte finish. The Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited Supreme Matte Lipsticks however have a softer feel – almost like a mousse-to-powder texture. True to Shu Uemura’s claims, they feel very soft and smooth going on and glide across lips. However, a word of caution, while they don’t FEEL dry or suck moisture out of lips, the high pigment and the unique texture can be very unforgiving on dry lips – you absolutely HAVE to condition lips before applying the lipsticks. One method I always use (I can’t remember where I picked it up from – Temptalia perhaps) is to apply my lip balm when I start applying my sunblock and base makeup which gives lipbalm adequate time to soak in. You can blot off the excess or even wipe down with a baby wipe (which somehow is the best way to get rid of softened chapped skin) and then apply the lipstick.
Now that we’ve discussed the texture, let’s take a look at the new shade range, followed by a closer look at 2 shades.
The 6 new shades comprise 3 pink and 3 beige shades, from pale to rich and vibrant. The following are swatches of the 6 shades. In these shots, I think you can get an idea of how the texture is like – they have this suede vibe to them.
The 2 beige shades M Beige 942 and 955 really appeal to me – they look like they would work with so many different makeup looks, clothes and moods.
Let’s take a closer look at the lipsticks – I have M Pink 355 and M Pink 356 to showcase.
M Pink 355 is a warm raspberry pink. Although it is very vibrant, I think will suit a wide variety of complexions and will look great paired with eyelooks in gold, rich browns, lilacs and jewel blues (at least, these are the eyecolours I would pair this lipstick with).

M Pink 356 is more vibrant than M Pink 355 – it has a little “shock” factor to it. It is an attention-seeking hot pink that leans a little cool but not so cool so warmer complexions should be able to wear this as well. With M Pink 356, I think I would actually prefer a shimmery black, navy or any blackened eyeshadow (as compared to the purple eye I have on in the photos) – I think that would make M Pink 356 even more outstanding. I felt M Pink 356 was louder and had this party vibe to it – scanning through all the photos I took with both the lipsticks, I was definitely grinnier in the photos with M Pink 356 on. Just coincidence?
The lipsticks are well worth taking a look at but just remember to condition and hydrate your lips before wearing them. They really are long-lasting and comfortable on lips – I didn’t experience peeling or chapping with them on and I really do like the range of colours. While you’re at it, take a look at the other shades in the permanent Rouge Unlimited Supreme Matte range – I’ve heard that M Pink 376 is a runaway success. Dubbed Gangnam Pink, it was apparently the colour that Korean actress Yoon Eun Hye, wore in a tele-novella, “I Miss You” – the hot pink lipstick sold out in droves, even in UK department store Selfridges. I need to check M Pink 376 out just to see what it is all about!
