Seven Seas Cruising Association Call for Action Against Piracy

By Sailingguide

Following the recent deaths of four American cruisers taken hostage by pirates off Somalia, a tragedy that shocked the international sailing community, the Seven Seas Cruising Association has issued a call to action directed not only to the U.S. government but to political leaders around the world.  Please read this document for a better understanding of the real nature of this problem and what it will take to stop it from continuing and growing. I am very impressed by how cogently the SSCA has considered the issues of contemporary piracy and how thoughtfully they make their recommendations. Their analysis of this terrible situation, and their proposed solutions, are the most intelligent I have seen yet in the media or cruising press. It's time now for actions such as they suggest.
