SEO and Social Media

Posted on the 26 June 2012 by Maria Snyder @MariaConsulting

I get asked often if I do search engine optimization. My answer is tricky. Smart search engine key words and links are recommended in social media posts. Rather than answer the question as; “well kind of”.  Instead I simply explain how they fit together.

Here is how SEO and social media fit together.

  •  Optimizing social media profiles to include a business brick and mortar address, a phone number, name and specific service offering descriptions will capitalize on local search engine results for your type of business.  According to HubSpot “focuing on local SEO ensures you’re the first business a lead sees when they’re looking for a business like yours in their zip code”.
  • Google’s search algorithm is smarter. It rewards stellar content for readers. Basic SEO isn’t a mysterious task that marketers are unaware of. The keyword research is free and available, use Google’s keyword optimization tool.
  • As the chart above highlights, social and SEO have a circular relationship. Social postings and profiles are indexed by search engines.  If social network posts and descriptive profiles are created with SEO keyword and quality content, there is a mutual benefit evident in the diagram. Increases in search related traffic awareness should occur resulting in sharing of quality content.

Opinions and positions vary widely concerning SEO versus social, I’ll let you decide which is better.

My focus stretches between the two, neither SEO or social is neglected.
