Seeing Clearly after Menopause

Along with the myriad changes that happen during the menopause transition, there are also changes associated with aging. Wrinkles, aches and pains, dryness, just to mention a few. Several months ago, I began noticing the most lovely prismatic rainbows around lights at night. “Darn it,” I thought, “cataracts.”

And so it is that I am having my first surgery done Monday – tomorrow. I am equal parts excited and anxious. I’ve worn glasses and/or contacts since I was a kid. And now, I might need neither. Thanks to medical science and technology, I will have better vision than I have had most of my life. Wow. Just wow.

I see a lot of things more clearly since menopause – metaphorically that is. I see that self-care isn’t selfishness. I see that trying new things need not be good or successful, just attempted. And enjoyed. I see that beauty really IS inside and joy is the best cosmetic I can use. I see that each day is another opportunity to be grateful, that simply drawing breath is a miracle.

And now, clarity might actually manifest physically. I’ll let you know how it goes. Stay safe and be well, goddesses.
