The Queens Head Belton is a cosy country pub in Leicestershire, not too far from Loughbourough. They produce home cooked food, using the finest local ingredients and also boast lovely and comfy bedrooms to rest weary heads at the end of the day.
We liked the minimalistic decor and spacious interior, especially great now we lug a great pram around with us wherever we go! It wasn’t particular buys when we visited on a Saturday lunchtime, but would be great place to base yourselves to explore Leicestershire for the weekend.
I liked that the menu was small and compact, to me this suggests all homemade food and concentrating on a smaller repertoire often means better food!
Lee started off with Fried duck egg, smoked bacon, homemade black pudding, gooseberry ketchup. He really enjoyed this hearty starter, and was really impressed with both the homemade back pudding and the tang to the gooseberry ketchup.
I chose the Classic Prawn Cocktail. Not something you see that often anymore in the more modern establishement, but this one was done very well, and with the addition of chicory and sourdough bread made for a very yummy beginning.
Lee can rarely resist a steak with peppercorn sauce, and with all the grilled meat at the Queens Head being cooked on a Berghoff B.B.Q grill he went for a Sirloin. The triple cooked chips were perfect versions and the steak very well cooked at Medium Rare.
I chose a Malaysian Beef Rendang Curry and was blown away by the prettiness and attention payed to the dish. Roasted nuts, fried shallots and edible flowers though were not a detraction from the delicious flavours that lay below. The curry had really depth to it with a subtle heat and was a great version.
The food was very good so far, so we couldn’t not have dessert too! I spied a Homemade waffle, maple syrup, vanilla ice cream on the menu which was soft and fluffy and finished the meal off very well for me! Lee had the cheese which came with a lovely selection of accompaniments and he only quibble was that the cheese was very cold.
We really enjoyed our meal at The Queen’s Head and wouldn’t hesitate to pop back again were we in the area.
