When Thomas wakes up in the lift, the only thing he can remember is his first name. His memory is blank. But he’s not alone. When the lift’s doors open, Thomas finds himself surrounded by kids who welcome him to the Glade—a large, open expanse surrounded by stone walls.
Just like Thomas, the Gladers don’t know why or how they got to the Glade. All they know is that every morning the stone doors to the maze that surrounds them have opened. Every night they’ve closed tight. And every 30 days a new boy has been delivered in the lift.
Thomas was expected. But the next day, a girl is sent up—the first girl to ever arrive in the Glade. And more surprising yet is the message she delivers.
Thomas might be more important than he could ever guess. If only he could unlock the dark secrets buried within his mind.
Can someone tell me why it took so long to read this book??? Seriously, I have been missing out!!! The Maze Runner was seriously amazing, and I'm really disappointed in myself for wasting so much time NOT reading it!! The end of every chapter is like a mini-cliff hanger that had me up way too late at night reading so I could find out what was happening!
The characters are all pretty hilarious. Thomas, the protagonist, is definitely a go-getter. Although he doesn't know what's going on, he won't take no for an answer. He breaks all the right rules and doesn't waste time thinking, he just does. Minho and Newt are great characters as well. They're both really sarcastic and pretty funny, but they definitely realize what they have in Thomas.
The story is AWESOME. Seriously, I don't have a single negative thing to say about it!! I couldn't stop reading, and although I was constantly thinking, "WTF is going on here?!" I had permanent goosebumps while I was reading! There are so many things going on, and Dashner is always throwing in different twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat! I'm really impressed with the way he writes, and although it took a little bit to get used to the weird language the Gladers use, like shuck-face and shank, I actually started using the words with my friend who has also read the books!
I definitely recommend The Maze Runner to anyone and everyone!! I think anyone who likes action, adventure, dystopian, mysteries, hell anything! If you like ANYTHING you will like this book!! I have to admit though, I was bawling like a baby by the end! Some seriously sad stuff happens, but I'll leave you with that... I recommend EVERYONE should read this book, literally everyone. Even boys who don't like to read much will love this one!! And yes, I say boys because most of the boys I know don't read. So go pick up a copy of this one NOW!
