The King’s Head is a traditional 15th Century village inn located in picturesque Aston Cantlow in the heart of Warwickshire about 6 miles from Stratford-upon-Avon. It is a listed building and keeps lots of traditional character with its open fires and low beams. The building and area are supposedly steeped in history; apparently Shakespeare’s parents wed at the church in the village and they are rumoured to have held their Wedding Breakfast in The King’s Head too!
This is only a short review as we popped in to have a quick lunch on a super sunny day and took advantage of their lovely peaceful beer garden.
For lunch they have both a light bites and sandwiches menu and their A La Carte Menu available. We chose a few things to share.
- The Meat Sharing Board with Homemade Scotch Egg, Pork Pie, Crispy Pork Belly Bites, Black Pudding Fritters with Pickled Onions, English Mustard and Rustic Bread
- Crispy Chilli Beef with Oriental Vegetable, Noodle Salad and Sweet Chilli Sauce
- Tomato, Red Onion and Rocket Salad
- Hand Cut Chips
We really didn’t have any complaints about the lunch. All the elements were tasty and fresh and of good quality. Perhaps our only nitpick was the lack of runny middle in the scotch eggs!
There were some other things that really stood out from the menu such as Duo of Spernal Pheasant: Tandoori Breast, Pakora Leg, Onion Salad and Mint Yogurt and Duck Mixed Grill; Char Grilled Breast, Confit Leg, Seared Foie Gras, Crispy Egg with Hand Cut Chips, Onion Rings and Orange Chutney which I’d love to try if going back for dinner!
It made for a very pleasant lunch in the sun and I’d not hesitate to return and try more!
