Review: The Fuzzy Duck, Nuneaton

By Thefoodiecoupleblog

Not so long ago I told you about the opening of a pub over in Nuneaton called the Fuzzy Duck. Well after not that long an amount of time its ALL CHANGE over there int terms of personnel. They relaunched the menu last week under the guidance of a fab pair of chefs called Dan & Scott who have been consulting there and will soon hand over the reigns to a new Head Chef that they’ve appointed.

The menu has some lovely sounding dishes such as Goats Cheese Mousse, Baby Beetroot Hazelnut Port and Balsamic Jelly and Chicken Breast with Chargrilled Baby Leeks Wild Mushroom & Truffle Fricassee and Thyme Potato Rosti. They also offer a Fixed Price lunch menu, excellent value at £9.95 for 2 courses.

The decor is modern, light and airy. I particularly like the the quaint wallpaper! A particular shout out as well to our waitress that day who was absolutely lovely.

I decided to eat of the fixed price menu – starting with Ham Hock Terrine with Chutney Baby Leaves and Toast. Lee tried out the Duck Liver Parfait, Smoked Duck Breast and Red Onion Marmalade from the A La Carte. It was nice to know that the duck was smoked in house and the terrine, parfait and chutneys all fresh and homemade.

Chef sent out a little taster for us of one of the other starters on offer – Scallops, Hogs Pudding, Apple Pureé with Apple & Thyme butter. This was probably my favorite of the lunch – a fantastic combination of flavours, with the hogs pudding replacing the classic black pudding  and all cooked excellently.

For my main I chose a Crab & Chilli Linguine, whilst Lee went for a Flat Iron Steak with Bernaise Sauce.  Again, it was really nice to hear that things like the chips and the sauce were all made from scratch – something that I find really important when eating out. If I want bought in chips and sauce I’ll go home and stick them in the oven myself!

Desserts were no less yummy –  a White Chocolate and Baileys Parfait and Strawberries and Cream.

If the new chef can continue the good work of this carefully thought out  and well cooked pub menu then the people of Nuneaton may be onto a winner.
