Review: The Face Shop Clean Face Mild Toner

By Herugliness
Hello! ~ I already tried two products from The Face Shop's Clean Face line before: The The Face Shop Clean Face Oil-Free BB Cream, which I liked a lot and the The Face Shop Clean Face Oil Free Control Essence, which I felt quite insignificant about because it didn't do anything for my skin. Today I will review another product from this line, the The Face Shop Clean Face Mild Toner. This toner comes in a 130ml glass bottle and a rather boring design, which all products from this line have in common. I am not too fond of the glass bottle actually, it just makes the product really heavy. The first thing I noticed was how it was so difficult to get any decent amount of product out of the bottle. You have to shake it violently and only small drops will come out. Not handy at all, however, it gets better the emptier the bottle gets. About halfway through of the bottle's content it worked completely fine. The Face Shop Clean Face Mild Toner ReviewThe Face Shop Clean Face Mild Toner ReviewThe Face Shop Clean Face Mild Toner Review
The Face Shop describes this product as "a refreshing toner that contains quick clear complex substance (combination of marshmallow, lemon myrtle extract, manuka honey) and malt extract, which calms the skin down" and which "treats oily or problem skin more quickly and effectively". I have oily and problem skin, which at the same time is very sensitive and reacts bad to a lot of harsh ingredients, but the reason that this was called "Mild Toner" let me believe to actually have a mild product. But if you look at the ingredient list, it doesn't seem so mild to me.
The Face Shop Clean Face Mild Toner ReviewThere are a lot of good, mild and natural ingredients in this toner, like honey or malt extract, but at the same time the list carries ingredients like alcohol, methylparaben, artificial fragrance or tea tree oily. Now tea tree oil for example is a natural ingredient and very efficient for treating breakouts, but at the same time it is a very harsh ingredient! I remember that as a teen my mother gave me the stuff to put on pimples and it literally burned my skin. On top of that the stuff smells like hell. I guess the fragrance was necessary to hide that awful smell and the result is a clear liquid toner with an odd and hard to place scent. I am pretty sure I can still smell the tea tree oil somewhere in there. The Face Shop Clean Face Mild Toner ReviewMy skin had actually been in a quite okay condition before I used this toner, but from day one I started using this product its condition declined drastically! Every single tiny spot seems to become infected and turned into a huge red pimple of doom. Within just 3 days of using this toner my skin changed from okay to horrible. The toner doesn't seem to stitch or burn on my skin, yet I feel like after using it for a couple of days, my skin seemed reddish.I guess this toner is good for oily and troubled skin, but the "mild" in the title is just a lie, because this is a harsh product not suitable for my skin at all. I cannot recommend this at all. Stay away from this if you have sensitive skin!
Surprisingly The Face shop actually did manage to produce a really mild toner for oily and troubled skin, only that they did not call it "mild": The The Face Shop Clean Face Blemish Zero Clarifying Toner is without alcohol, paraben and artificial fragrance and worked really well on my skin. Everyone who considers getting the The Face Shop Clean Face Mild Toner should get the The Face Shop Clean Face Blemish Zero Clarifying Toner instead.
