Juliette hasn't touched anyone in exactly 264 days.
The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal. As long as she doesn't hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don't fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.
The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war-- and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she's exactly what they need right now.
Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.
In this electrifying debut, Tahereh Mafi presents a world as riveting as The Hunger Games and a superhero story as thrilling as The X-Men. Full of pulse-pounding romance, intoxicating villainy, and high-stakes choices, Shatter Me is a fresh and original dystopian novel—with a paranormal twist—that will leave readers anxiously awaiting its sequel.
I can't believe it's taken me so long to read Shatter Me! What have I been thinking?? This book is AMAZING. Tahereh Mafi is one of the most talented writers I've ever had the pleasure of reading. She's an incredible story teller and Shatter Me is an amazing story of love, loss, and discovering yourself. Shatter Me had me on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading it and I loved every second.
Juliette is amazing. She's definitely ashamed of what she can do, but she's still strong and she holds herself high and doesn't give in to much. Her growth is fantastic to watch as she slowly realizes what she's capable of. And Adam... oh Adam. He is one of the most swoon-worthy book boys I've met in a long time. He's incredibly caring and selfless, but he's also really mysterious. Mafi had me guessing for a long time about him and what his deal was. The relationship between Juliette and Adam is electrifying. I could feel their chemistry oozing off the pages whenever they were together. Just thinking about them is giving me goosebumps.
As I said before, Mafi is an amazing writer. Her descriptions are so elegant and beautiful it's almost like reading poetry. Usually I don't like long, drawn out descriptions but I felt like every word was important and if I missed anything I would miss out on the story as a whole. I never felt rushed while I was reading either. Every detail was covered with such eloquence that I always knew what was happening and I never got confused. The story itself is amazing, so fast paced and exciting, with just the right amount of romance. I'm so excited to read the next one, I definitely won't be waiting long after it comes out.
Overall, I loved Shatter Me. It was an amazing story with gorgeous writing and fabulous characters. If you're a dystopian lover you're going to love this one. If you're a romance junkie this is definitely something you need to pick up. If you want to read something fast and exciting Shatter Me will fill that for you in a second. This book is for everyone, if you don't have it yet you definitely need to get your hands on it!
