Ox Pasture Hall is a luxurious country house hotel, not far from Scarborough near the rugged North Yorkshire Coast. It’s not somewhere that I’ve spent much time, so when invited to stay at Ox Pasture and do some exploring the answer of course was yes.
It’s about a 3 hour drive from Birmingham up to Scarborough but we set off early and made it up by mid morning and spent a lovely few hours exploring the beaches and nearby towns, which you can read about in an upcoming post, before making our way over to Ox Pasture Hotel, easy to find (as long as you have a Sat Nav!)
Our welcome was warm and we were shown to our room briefly, before heading down to the cosy lounge area for afternoon tea complete with roaring fire. More about that in the next few days.
After a relaxing hour we took a walk around in grounds, and the sun even came out for us. The grounds and gardens are lovely, with a small lake/large pond out the back and an amazing view over the rolling yorkshire hills. There are various little areas to sit and enjoy the view which would be perfect in the summertime.
We then headed back to our room, which was one of the nicest I have stayed in recently. It had a separate living area with sofa and a lovely view over the nearby farmland, with some nice artwork and features on the walls such as the large antique looking clock.
We spent an hour or two chilling out and getting ready for dinner. The bathroom was gorgeous – I loved the tiling, his and hers sinks and huge bath with waterfall taps and a large walk in rainfall shower. And a cute little bathtub filled with toiletries. It was all done out to a high standard and was spotlessly clean.
The Kingsize bed was mega comfortable and we slept like babies. Breakfast the next day was a mixture of a buffet style cold breakfast and a few choices on the menu for hot options. There was a large wedding party in from the night before, so we were glad they had put a reserved sign on the tables for the other guests that occupied the hotel so we didnt have to fight for a table – this was a big plus. However when we sat down we then had to wait 20minutes for anyone to come over and take our tea coffee and breakfast order. We were told that ‘they had been dealing with the wedding party’ which irked us a little as we were made to feel like they were more important. The Full English actually came in very good time after ordering and was worth it – perfectly cooked eggs and good quality ingredients.
We couldn’t fault the hotel grounds and the rooms, it was perfect for a tranquil break. They are a venue for weddings however, so I would check whether they are hosting one on your stay as this might detract from the quiet secluded break you want.
