With the clocks going back over the weekend and nights getting darker and colder, there’s nothing I love more than getting home from work, throwing on some comfy clothes, making some hot chocolate and lighting some candles. The lighting some candles part can be tricky though, when you have two young cats doing kamikaze dives all over the house! Lit candles + cats = house engulfed in a fiery inferno. If only there was such a thing as flameless candles...
Oh wait, there are! These led candles from Paramount Zone look like gorgeous chunky church candles but they are in fact lit using led bulbs. They come in a pack of 3, one small, one medium and one large (which look great grouped together by the way) for £12.99 BARGAIN! They run off of AAA batteries so there are no wires to spoil the effect, and they don’t constantly need placed in a recharging station either.
I was initially dubious about how realistic these ‘candles’ would look, however they are finished in wax which gives them a completely realistic wax candle texture. You can also set the bulbs to flicker mode to give off the same light you would expect from a candle flame. I've uploaded a little video of these candles in action so that you can get an idea of what I'm referring to.
I haven’t even told you the best part yet. They come with a remote control! Is the flickering annoying you? Change them to full glow mode without having to get up! You can also use the remote to set a timer for the candles to come on for 4 or 8 hours. I also enjoy pretending I'm magic and that I'm lighting and extinguishing candles with the power of my mind. Simple pleasures.
I can think of so many scenarios where these will be useful. They would be great if you have kids or pets, like me, and worry about the safety of having lit candles around. You can also place them on window sills or on top of wooden furniture without worrying about burning the house down. They will be great to use while having a relaxing bath, and are also perfect for using in the garden as they won’t get blown out by the wind. They could sit in the center of your dining table for Christmas dinner without fear of being knocked over and igniting your turkey also!
In my opinion these are a top Christmas gift for 2012 and would also make a great wedding, engagement or house-warming gift.
These remote control candles were sent to me as a PR sample but I am genuinely thrilled with the amazing quality of them. I can’t believe they are only £12.99. I’m just about to purchase a second set for my Mum for Christmas, and I'm also buying myself another set! Mr Juicy and I move into our new house next year and we have asked the builders to put in an old fashioned looking fireplace. These led candles are going to sit around that fireplace and look amazing!
