It's been harder for me to get into dystopians lately because it seems like they're all following the same predictable patterns. Don't get me wrong, I'll never hesitate to pick up a book set in a post-apocalyptic world, but it's hard to find those books that have something different. By page one of Erasing Time I was hooked and I had a hard time putting it down at all after that. I definitely had a few issues with some aspects, but by the time I finished with it I knew I needed to find out what was going to happen next!
When twins Sheridan and Taylor wake up 400 years in the future, they find a changed world: domed cities, no animals, and a language that’s so different, it barely sounds like English. And the worst news: They can’t go back home.
The twenty-fifth-century government transported the girls to their city hoping to find a famous scientist to help perfect a devastating new weapon. The moblike Dakine fights against the government, and somehow Taylor and Sheridan find themselves in the middle. The only way to elude them all is to trust Echo, a guy with secrets of his own. The trio must put their faith in the unknown to make a harrowing escape into the wilds beyond the city.

The twins, Sheridan and Taylor, are complete opposites. Sheridan is the shy, insecure one and Taylor is the intelligent, bold, and more resiliant one. To be honest, I had a hard time connecting with either of them. They seemed to be extremes of one personality or the other. Sheridan was insecure to the point where she was constantly questioning anything anyone said to her at all. It definitely started to get annoying, but thankfully she also started growing up. Echo was definitely a dreamy love interest. Blue hair and all! He's incredibly rebellious which, I of course, was extremely attracted to straight from the beginning. He's also a little bit hard to understand. I was never sure if he could be trusted or not, but neither could the twins. The romance between Echo and Sheridan is overly complicated yet extremely rushed. She seems to fall for him after only a couple days and then he becomes the obsession of her life in the future and I was just totally turned off by that.
I really enjoyed the sci fi elements and the way they were approached in Erasing Time. Since Taylor is the genius and Sheridan is... not so much, Taylor and Echo were always explaining things to Sheridan in a way that I could understand as well. It really helped me grasp what was going on and why certain things were happening or how they worked. I think this was a great method on Hill's part because it helps explain things to the characters as well as the reader in a way that isn't condescending. The writing was a little bit choppy at parts, but it improved near the end of the story, so that wasn't too big of an issue for me. The story itself was fast-paced and exciting and I had a really hard time putting it down at all!
Overall I definitely enjoyed Erasing Time! I found it extremely hard to put down and there were so many elements that made it incredibly original for a dystopian. I could never really guess who was good and who was bad, and the characters were all so different that I managed to find a bit of myself in all of them. While no one was particularly easy to relate to, they all managed to grow during the story which was a great sign. I loved the ending and I seriously cannot wait to find out what's going to happen next!! Fans of Under the Never Sky and other dystopian novels will definitely want to pick this one up!
