Brewhouse and Kitchen in Sutton Coldfield has been around for a little while now, but is somewhere we have never got round to trying. I first thought it was an independent pub & kitchen, but turns out there’s quite a few of them across the country, mostly in the south. They also all boast an in house microbrewery, which must be a good draw for the beer lovers amongst us.
As well as the pub and restaurant, they run beer masterclasses and brewery experience days too, the former of which we are going to try out at the newly opened Lichfield branch soon, so watch this space for that!
We had only popped in for a quick lunch, so didn’t get to try out too much, although Lee commented that it seemed like somewhere he would happily come with friends for a day of drinking and trying out new beers – there were lots on the menu. In the end after a lot of deliberation he tried a Beavertown Gamma Ray 5.4%. He really likes American ales and hadn’t tried this one before.
Food wise the menu has a lot American style food, tex mex, burgers and the like, but also a few nods to other cuisines too. The starter list also doubles as a sharer style option, offering 3 dishes for £14.50, so being in a indecisive mood, I chose three of these, with the idea that Lee would pick at them too along side the NEW YORKER BURGER – 6oz 21-day aged Birchstead beef patty, BBQ pulled pork, mature Cheddar cheese, cask ale relish, tomato, lettuce and red onion that he wanted.
Lee enjoyed the burger, although it wasn’t the best he has had, the patty being a little dry, which was counteracted by the pulled pork luckily.
I chose the Loaded Nachos, Spiced Lamb Kofta and the B&K Buffalo Wings. The wings were spot on, and served with a blue cheese dip which I adore with the hot buffalo sauce. The nachos similarly were a good version with a flavor packed beef chilli on top, but I didn’t enjoyed the koftas as much, finding them quite dry and a bit lacking in flavor.
Child friendly? It was great for Imogen in terms of space – plenty of room for prams and highchairs and a good changing area. Theres a kids menu too for when she’s older.
We enjoyed our first visit to a B&K, and I’m looking forward to going to the new Lichfield one very soon.
