When I was scouting around on the internet and other blogs trying to find recommendations of places to eat on Ibiza I cam across a few mentions for Bambuddha. There were quite a few places I really wanted to try but this one won out due to it being the closest to our resort and the fact that we weren’t planning on hiring a car this time round.
It describes itself as being ‘Mediterrasian’ food which definitely intrigued me! The decor was pretty extravagant with large chandeliers in the dining room and lots of nods to the far east.
The cocktail list was no less impressive than the decor. Between the two of us we sampled quite a few; our favourites were the
- Bambuddha Bison – Vodka, Licor 43, Passion Fruit, Mint, Peach & Apple Juice
- Full Moon – Spiced Rum, Lime Juice, Bitters & Ginger Beer
- Bamburrita – Coriander infused Tequila, Watermelon, Agave Syrup, Lime Chilli & Mint
- Shamanic – Gin, Elderflower Liqueur, Raspberries, Lemon & Orange Bitters
The Bamburrita was my favouite of the night – a fantastic mix and balance of flavours, and something a little different.
Moving on to the food, and the advice was that you chose lots of dishes to share and they would arrive at the table as and when ready. We didn’t know how much to chose or how big each dish was so we opted for 5 dishes and a few bits of sushi. Our choices were:
- Spicy Beef Salad – Marinated Seared Beef with crunchy vegetables and spicy thai dressing
- Seabass Ceviche – with grandilla, pithaya and orange campari candies and dressed with blood orange, tigers milk and cilantro
- Tuna & Salmon Tartare – with avocado, mango, aji amarillo syrup, mandarin tartar, cucumber lime & sake sorbet
- Japanese Beef Carpaccio – Seared black angus, onion ponzu and creamy chipotle dressing, with fried curly sweet potato
- Char Sui Chicken – with pomegranate glaze and merlot & liquorice sauce
- Spicy Tuna Uramaki
- Wagyu Beef Nigiri
- Seabass Nigiri
The food was really outstanding. I adore this kind of cooking whites sadly not very abundant in the Midlands. The flavours were also clean and fresh, with beautiful ingredients and combinations. The standouts for me were the spicy beef salad – the vegetable part had one of the most well balanced thai dressings I’ve tasted. I also loved the beef carpaccio – the onion and chipotle dressing was superb, both creamy and crisp and fresh all at the same time. We also both thought the sorbet that came with the tartare was one of the best we’d eaten.
We decided to share one dessert dish also – theatrical but probably the weakest of the night – we wouldn’t order it again. I can’t exactly remember it, but essentially it was deep fried breaded ice cream, with a caramel sauce laced with something alchoholic!
A fantastic meal. If you like this kind of cuisine then its one not to miss if your over in Ibiza.
