The Rose & Crown, in the heart of historic Warwick, is part of the Peach Pub Empire, which I have blogged about before and are one of the leading Gastropub groups in the UK in my opinion. I’ve been a couple of times to their Warwick venue, the Rose, and in fact spent a fab New Year there too a couple of years back when the other half of the foodie couple did some work for them. The Rose & Crown at the end of last year underwent a complete refurbishment so we were keen to see how things had changed since our last visit. I must say I absolutely loved the new decor, it’s really brought the place bang up to date. It’s much more homely but keeping a lovely modern twist with quirky artwork and unique features. The private dining area has also been revamped and made into The Wood Shed, and extra seating provided with the addition of The Yard. Absolutely stunning, and I wish it was my local! There’s also recently been some staffing changes at the Rose, with the introduction of Head Chef Leon from another of the Peach Pubs, with former Head Chef Rob moving to another Warwickshire Peach location to help with it’s own re-launch. All the staff were fabulous and smiley, and assistant manager Emma took excellent care of us during our meal, so bright and bubbly you couldn’t wish for more in a manager. As we were visiting on a Sunday, we were looking forward to a legendary Peach Sunday roast. Knowing their size, we opted for a starter to share – Chorizo Stew on Sourdough Toast. This was a simple and delicious starter with hearty flavours and lovely kick from the chorizo and freshness from the watercress. For our mains neither of us could see past the Aubrey Allen Roast Beef, although there were several other roasts and other mains available. You have the choice of well done or pink meat (pink of course please!) and its accompanied by a Root Veg Puree, Yorkie, Roast Potatoes and a bowl of green veg too. The portion is v large, but I couldn’t really fault a thing, fluffy roasties, well cooked green veg (leeks, kale, broccoli) and perfect meat. We don’t often eat Roast dinner out as we feel they often fall short of what we could cook ourselves, but this one was excellent. We also loved the fact that the staff bring around little plates of extra potatoes, yorkies and gravy, without you having to ask – a brilliant little touch.
