Re-opening of Lau Pa Sat 30 June 2014

By Dariel

Lau Pa Sat reopens yesterday on the 30 June 2014 after much wait and that wait was a well-long 8 months, including those hiccups that the famous iconic eating place in Singapore faced prior to its opening.

Revamping the food court, also known as “Old Market” in Hokkien costs $4 million.

With an expansion in its floor space to accomaodate 460 patrons more than before totalling to about 2500, it now sees new stalls springing up offering more variety of food. Though more patrons are allowed, the downside to the new facelift Lau Pa Sat sees less spacious seating layout. This of course to be expected; with the same amount of the hexagonal floor space and have more accomodation the space between seats has to be maximised. I do not know whether if this results in more “claustorphobic” or stuffy feel. You know the feel of having your food to close to one another or navigating through the narrow walkway with that hot kimchi soup on your tray.

I guess the office workers within the vicinity have waited long for this. Probably its re-opening ends their 8-month long nightmare of having the same food (around Lau Pa Sat when it was closed) all the time. Maybe but if it’s me, I probably would.

Well it doesn’t really matter now. What matters is that Lau Pa Sat finally opens with fresh new look and new stalls to the curious and starving patrons who have waited long for it. Now I’m feeling hungry……
