Hey Metalheads! I bring you today a fantastic Spanish Melodic Power Metal band called Raven’s Gate, which has released a high recommended debut album entitled “Defying Gravity”.
This promising metal band was born in 2011, when Arturo Megamuerte (vocalist) decides to go a step further in his musical path, founding a new metal band which is focused on European Melodic Metal, leaving behind his previous musical projects more oriented to a Heavy Metal sound.
The first three demo songs of the band achieved great success on Youtube and this project was soon consolidated as a band with a stable line-up ready to offer us a great Melodic Power Metal sound… and the Raven has finally crossed the gate to fly high, oh yeah!, and I have to say that these guys are certainly flying high like ravens in the sky following the wind… the Metal Wind!!!??
Ok, I have excited a little bit in the last lines haha, but, after hearing their great debut album, I sincerously think that these guys have a promising future in the world of metal.
After many shows sharing stage with great bands like Dragonfly, Hybris, Dünedain, Edhellen or Sylvania, this fantastic last band, Sylvania, I have also published it on MetalWind a few months ago, Raven’s Gate decides to prepare their first full-lenght album called “Defying Gravity”, which was finally released on 2013.
Raven’s Gate has offered a great and succeded show introducing “Defying Gravity” album in Rock City, sharing stage with bands Wrath Within and Crazy Nights, after that, Joe Arca (bassist) leaves Raven’s Gate band and Aitor Frances arrives as new bassist of the band.
“Defying Gravity” album is a fantastic debut release which contains ten songs that not disappoint to all Power Metal lovers. With a fresh and melodic sound with a very good production, we can enjoy a high recommended Power Metal sound full of catchy melodies and some progressive metal touches very cool.
With a melodic voice, Arturo makes a great work along each track in the album with amazing and clean vocals catching you at the first time, growling backing vocals in some parts are also fantastic. Guitar bases by Carlos Barrera sound very good resulting nice and catchy compositions and the awesome keyboards print a great atmophere in the album, they invite you to fly high through each track.
Starting with the great “Distance Of Fire”, the album catchs you at the first moment and the ravens spread their wings to offer us the fantastic “Forevermore” with a nice melody and catchy touches very cool, resulting one of the most superhits in the album.
“Lionheart Doll” is another great song which no doubt, it will be converted in a classic from the band, with amazing progressive touches, really fantastic keyboards and growling parts, this is definitely a song that you should listen to it.
The sweet “Bliss” with a quiet and surounding sound is an intense song with good feelings, great guitar solo and fantastic work of Arturo on vocals.
“3… 2… 1… Awake!” is a powerful track which creates a great atmosphere, good changes of pace and it encreases the intensity resulting another good song in the album in which collaborates Cesar Yepes from Darkblazers.
The nice starting of “The Princess Of The Oil Ocean” with amazing keyboards displays a great and melodic song with a sound very cool, and “Juno”, with the collaboration of Sylvania’s vocalist Alvaro Lopez, offer us a track full of fantastic progressive elements with an intense and surounding sound high recommended.
“Star in Blue” is in my opinion a magical and melodic song with great feeling, fantastic drums and nice acustic guitars which you should not miss. The long end track entitled “Comet 253″ is another good song in the album marked by amazing progressive touches, changes of pace, fantastic solos and sypmphonic elements in same parts with a very good result.
I have left for the end, one of my favorite songs in the album entitled “Last Breath Air Fortress”, I love this song, it’s a poweful, catchy and intense track with an amazing keyboards solo, which dispays a very good Melodic Power Metal sound that absolutely you have to listen to it.
