PFD Reminder in Cold Water

The Coast Guard Auxiliary has just posted a newsletter reminder of the importance of wearing a PFD when boating in cold water - if not at all times. A PFD helps keep you afloat and alive until being rescued. After all, hypothermia isn't your biggest immediate concern. As a former Coast Guard rescue swimmer says, "It is impossible to die from hypothermia in cold water unless you are wearing an approved flotation device, because without flotation - you won't live long enough to become hypothermic, you will most assuredly drown."
