Oscars 2014 Red Carpet Inspired Makeup Look

By Urhappybunnie @joaniebunnie
The Oscars 2014 will be held on Sunday, March 2, 2014 and I was requested to do an Oscars Red Carpet inspired makeup look by the wonderful twinsies, Michelle and Katherine of M + K (they're tomorrow's Ur Made Up Face featured bloggers too!) ^^ Perfect, coz I never really am interested in award shows except for the celebrity makeup and fashion on the red carpet. I will only watch awards shows if I'm looking forward to a performance or if I really want some of the nominees to win.
So here's my version of a red carpet makeup look: simple, classy and glamorous.

Face/Cheeks:

  1. For a red carpet event, with lots of cameras, clicking to take amazing photos of you, you would definitely want to start with a face primer to cover up those nasty pores, smooth the skin and help the makeup last all night long. I'm using Benefit Porefessional Face Primer, applying it on the cheeks, T-zone and chin - apply it on the areas where your pores are concentrated.
  2. I'm using two foundations first is the Revlon Photo Ready Foundation in 003 Shell. This foundation is full coverage and great for photographs, however, I find that applying this all over the face gives a thoroughly bright and highlighted look. The shade Shell is also too light for me so I'm using this foundation as a highlighter/concealer. I'm applying this under my eyes to cover up under eye circles, forehead, bridge of the nose, forehead, and chin. I'm blending this out with a synthetic brush, Real Techniques Setting Brush.
  3. With a foundation that matches my skin tone well, Maybelline Fit Me Foundation in 220, apply it to the areas where the first foundation wasn't applied. Blend well with the other foundation.
  4. Lightly set the foundation with a powder which has a slight coverage, MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Medium Deep.
  5. Since we are going minimal on the eyes and sporting red lips, contouring the face is very important to achieve a sculpted and put together look. Using NARS Laguna Bronzer, contour the cheeks, temples, jaw, and the nose.
  6. Apply a peach/pink blush at the back of the cheeks to help contour but add a little bit of color to the face - NARS Deep Throat Blush.
  7. Highlight the high points of the face, the tops of the cheeks, bridge of the nose, Cupid's bow, chin and forehead - MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Soft & Gentle.

Brows:
  • I'm really defining my brows and darkening them up to frame my face using the Graymelin Seven Tattoo Eyebrow in Dark Brown
Eyes:

  1. The first step in eye makeup is always priming the eyes, so starting off with Urban Decay Primer Potion in Original all over the lids.
  2. Using a copper toned shadow, L'oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in Amber Rush, apply it all over the lids with a flat eyeshadow brush. With the tip of the same brush, apply it all over the bottom lash line as well.
  3. With a crease brush, take a deep chocolate brown shade, NYX Eyeshadow in Rootbeer, apply it on the outer V of the eyes to lightly define the crease. With a pencil brush, bring this shade to the outer half of the bottom lash line.
  4. For the brow bone highlight, use a matte crean shadow, Wet n Wild Eyeshadow in Brulee.
  5. Apply a water proof black liner to both upper and lower waterline, NYX Eyeliner in Jet Black.
  6. Create a dramatic sharp wing on the upper lash line, Graymelin Control Sharp Liner Waterproof Black.
  7. Highlight the inner corner of the eyes with the MAC MSF in Soft and Gentle using a pencil brush.
  8. Curl the lashes and apply a thin coat of Maybelline Volum' Express MegaPlush Mascara Waterproof to the upper lashes. Apply two coats to the bottom lashes so they will stand out as well.
  9. Apply false lashes to bump up the look, Ardell Natural Wispies.

  • I'm lining the lips with Urban Decay 24/7 Lip Pencil in Naked and topping it with a matte red lipstick, MAC Riri Woo. Use a lip brush to perfect the red lip application.
