Online Dating - Yey Or Ney?

Today is my last day before I go back to work and i've been on the internet in my joggers most of the afternoon scouring match.com. I decided to make a profile a few months ago and now I am properly single i'm trying to meet some new guys.
It's really difficult to find what i'm looking for. I don't want no strings, but I don't want anything serious either. Do I want dating, or hang out?  What is it that most guys want?! I have been on a few dates but things seem to fizzle out very quickly. Whenever I used to watch Sex and the City (yeah I know it's not realistic but gotta make comparisons somewhere!) they used to get approached in bars and go out the next day for dinner etc and it just doesn't work that way here!
Anybody got any advice or want to share their experiences of online dating?
