On Writing (and Winning)

By Laura @BEBookworm

I need to start writing again. Back in November, I tried to write a novel. It didn’t turn out so well. However, in April, the people who do NaNoWriMo also do CAMP NaNoWriMo (and again in July). Since November always seems to be a busy month for me, I think that this year I’m going to give Camp NaNoWriMo ago. One big difference is that you can change your word goal for the month. I think I’m going to set a lower goal and aim for a good short story. Maybe writing 20,000 words.

A new tool I’ll have in my writing toolbox will be Grammarly. It is so much more than a spell checker! As you can probably tell from my blog posts, I’m not the most grammatically inclined person. So this will help me out. It might even add to my word count! It will point out all of the times I use contractions in my writing, which I try not to do, but it’s such a habit to write how I speak. Plus I can use their plagiarism checker. Sometimes I worry that that awesome sentence I wrote was just an awesome sentence from a book I read that got stuck in my brain. I’ll use Grammarly’s plagiarism checker online because copy machines always end up in a jam! Ha!

Now for the winning portion! I’ve entered a MadLib contest on Facebook to win tickets to this year’s Toronto ComiCon. It would help me out a lot if you would go to their Facebook Page, look at the comments on the post about the MadLib contest and LIKE my (Laura Thompson) comment! Thanks so much!
