Of Red Carpets & Anarkalis

By Hlthbeauty

Red Carpet events have always been and continue to be all about "who's wearing who". Though it has been mostly about sporting international designers, our Indian designers have made their own mark in the international fashion scenario, with more and more Bollywood talent exports to Hollywood.

Cannes Film Festival is one such spectacular (fashion) event, where every celebrity tries to bring in a mélange of their own personal taste and some of their country too! Indian sarees and anarkalis have made it a household name abroad, thanks to our celebrities on international red carpets!

IIFA and other awards night also bring the best of Indian fashion designers out there for everyone to take a glimpse.

Today I am compiling some of the best "anarkali " appearances of our very own Indian celebrities at various red carpets.

Anarkalis are easily a four hundred year old tradition of clothing and kicked off its Indian existence with the Mughal invasion in India.

They seem to be going no-where out of popularity and they can be quite called the "Indian wedding staple" these days.

OF CELEBRITIES & ANARKALIS

Here is a list of my favorite picks from various anarkali appearances by our sweet celeb fashionistas in various red carpet events -

Aishwarya is one ardent anarkali fan and is spotted decked up in one at most festivals, events or other public appearances. Though she sometimes goes overboard with her choice!

But who misses Aish at the Cannes? We all wait for that particular moment when she makes the entry.

Though she has sported various international designers like Gucci, Armani many times over - she also opts for one outfit by Abu Jani & Sandeep Khosla once every year to showcase her Indian roots.

I totally love this look of Aish in a floor length anarkali with intricate resham embroidery and stone work.

She carries Indian clothing as suave and elegantly as she carries Western ones, always managing to look sexy and neve raunchy!

Here she is sported in a fusion anarkali - a floor-length jacket style anarkali with heavy embroidery, cut out in the front to make it look as a maxi top. Love!

Here is a collage of the young bunch of female artists in Bollywood, sporting anarkalis in various events.

You can simply see the variety a humble anarkali has to offer from each of this picture.

Sonam is sporting an anarkali with jacket for the cool chic vibes whereas Kalki looks demure in that long tunic styled anarkali.

While Parineeti opted for a layered number, Deepika went in for supernet with golden embroidery.

I personally love anarkalis too and incorporate them in my daily wear too, not just reserved for occasions.

Here is me sporting anarkalis of different styles -

Though I am glad that our celebrities are all for Indian ethnic wear like sarees & anarkalis for red carpets, I would love to see them blaze the red carpet with Indian handlooms - cotton sarees , traditional silks and jewelries to give a lift to the hardworking weavers' society who are yet to see the light of the day!
