October ~ Weekend in Review

By Laura @BEBookworm

It’s October! October is my favorite month. It has Halloween, my Mom’s birthday, mine and Chad’s anniversary of the day we met… Plus the weather is lovely (usually), not too hot, not to cold. The leaves are changing, there’s apple and pumpkin stuff everywhere. It’s just magically in October.

That said, I didn’t take many picture this first weekend of October. I was just trying to enjoy myself. I had my first hot chocolate of the season and didn’t take a picture because it was just something I wanted to savour without pulling out a phone or camera. The same happened with the amazing carrot coconut soup Chad made. So here’s 3 pics of food from the weekend that I *did* take a picture of.

Grasslands
On Saturday I met up with the lovely mom-to-be Marissa for brunch at Grasslands. They had a small menu change in that they no longer have the Monster Burger on the brunch menu (which I bet a lot of people will be sad about), and it has been replaced with a Crispy Chicken (vegan, obviously) Burger. We both got that to try. It was tasty, however we both had some issues with the “chicken” being in pieces rather than one whole piece and they would fall out of the bun. I liked it though.

October Book Club
Sunday afternoon, I headed to Bloomer’s for my Animal Book Club meeting. We read My Gentle Barn by Ellie Lak. We all had some issues with the book, so it there was some great discussion. It makes for a more interesting meeting when people are complaining about things than praising them, in my opinion. Food-wise, I had a soy latte and a blueberry tart. I also took home some lemon glazed donuts, which were very good.

Cookies
I volunteered to do recipe testing for Rubber Cowgirl and the first recipe I tried out was some chocolate chip cookies. Great for snacking while watching Netflix.
