Nothing Out of the Ordinary

By Whattowearfor @whattowearfor

I don’t know about you, but my favourite blogs are those that give an insight into the bloggers life. I love seeing what they get upto on a daily basis. So as a treat for those of you like me, here’s a typical, nothing fancy, weekend in the life of me (and my boyfriend).

The weekend obviously starts the moment you leave work friday evening. Nothing beats driving home knowing that the next 60 hours or so are completely and utterly your own. To celebrate that glorious feeling, the boyfriend and I typically crack open a bottle of something. I love wine, but if we feel like sharing something between us our go-to is normaly a few bottle of Crabbies alcoholic ginger beer. I’ve yet to meet someone who doesn’t love this. An alternative is some sort of cider, and as a special treat this weekend we cracked open this beast.

Yummy drinks require yummy food, so being the household chef I normaly whip up something tasty. On the menu this evening – an easy but tasty feast of chilli chicken, potato wedges and peas. A bit of a cheat realy but it is the weekend.

The rest of the evening is spent relaxing. The week days are so hectic we never feel like we get much time together despite living in the same house, so we definitely make an effort at the weekends.

Nothing Out of the Ordinary

A standard Saturday start around 8/9 am (since I started full-time work I find it hard to get a proper lie-in anymore

:(
) with a cup of tea and a bacon roll. Bacon is about the only thing guaranteed to get the boyfriend out of bed before midday.

Nothing Out of the Ordinary
We like to plan things to do on the weekend and frequently make trips into London, perhaps to see a show or an exhibition – there’s always something to do.

Nothing Out of the Ordinary

Some weekends we stay at home and do all the boring domesticated stuff like tidying, cleaning, washing, food shopping etc but even that is bearable when you do it together. To break up the mundanity I might bake us something as a treat.

Nothing Out of the Ordinary

I hate being cooped up in the house for too long so will normally go for a walk somewhere, perhaps into town to mill around the shops (and hopefeully snap up a bargain). I love picnics and am always trying to drag the boy on one, so on a sunny saturday afternoon you may very well find us on a blanket in the local park.

Nothing Out of the Ordinary

The boy is a huge cinema fan, and there’s always something he wants to see so we never go too long without a trip to a picturehouse. Since seeing The Avengers at at Swiss Cottage for the Boys birthday, we’ve discovered how good IMAX technology is. I’ve yet to be dragged to the BFI but I’m sure it won’t be long.

Nothing Out of the Ordinary

At least once a month on Sundays we drive to visit our families. Typically we arrive at my parents late morning where my mum always greets us with tea and bacon rolls (now you see where I get it from) then head over to the in-laws around 5ish for sunday dinner. Here there’s always a houseful, a mountain of food and a gallon of wine. It feels like its always somebody’s birthday (its a large family) which means loads of homemade cake and presents. Though buying presents for everyone gets quite expensive, I absolutely love giving gifts. I am genuinely one of those people who enjoys giving presents more than receiving them. The best part of the process for me is picking the wrapping – I like to go all out with ribbons and bows and make sure it all coordinates – I think it makeseven the smallest gift more special, and shows that you care.

By the time we get back to our flat there’s little of the weekend left. Maybe just enough to watch something on the TV curled up on the sofa together before its bedtime and the working week begins again.

Nothing Out of the Ordinary

So there you go, nothing fancy or particularly exciting, but that’s how I usually spend my weekends. And TBH I absolutely love them.
