Hello!
I picked up 3 items from the NARS Holiday 2013 Colour Collection when it launched – a blush, lipstick and eyeshadow. In this entry, we’ll take a look at Blush in Day Dream and Cinematic Lipstick in Last Tango.
The eyeshadow I picked up was Cinematic Eyeshadow in Bad Behaviour – a glimmering dark gunmetal, which I have yet to get around to using. Speaking of which, I sneaked back to NARS and picked up another Cinematic Lipstick in Full Frontal which is awaiting photography and we’ll look at those 2 another day.
I’ve a couple of blushes from NARS – Amour and Torrid are my 2 favorite shades that I reach for very very often (and yet there is no dip in sight!). Ever since I picked up Day Dream, it’s really all I’ve been wearing for the past 2 weeks or so.
In the pan, it looks like a soft pink with subtle peach tones. The thing is this – it doesn’t really swatch too well and looks a tad muted when you try to pick color up with your finger – nothing exciting or promising. However, I’ve come to realize that some products need a little coaxing and it’s really best seen on the face. I got the BA at Robinsons Orchard to try it on me and I saw it come alive. In the swatch photo below, I’ve used my Hakuhodo Kokutan Blush brush to apply it to my inner wrist – this is a heavier swatch.
I’d call this an ‘illuminating blush’ – it is a soft pink with a subtle sheen that really brightens up the complexion, making it look fresh and bright.
Next up, I have Cinematic Lipstick in Last Tango – this is a new formula to NARS. It’s glossy but not thin and sheer and delivers a good amount of color all while lasting very comfortably on lips. I’ve checked – while at the NARS counter, I swatched every other nude-esque lipstick they have available and picked the BA’s brains. There isn’t a shade similar to Last Tango at all in the NARS lipstick range – the one that might bear slight semblance might be Pigalle (which I’ve since picked up – I’ve lost count on the number of products I’ve picked up this Holiday season). Unfortunately, when I last checked, Last Tango has been sold out in both the NARS counters in Tangs Orchard and Robinsons Orchard (but there might be restocking so if you really love this, do check with the counters).
The reason why I checked the entire range of NARS lipsticks for a dupe of Last Tango is that this is Limited Edition … and I LOVE this color. I don’t often wear a nude lipstick – I hadn’t really found one that suits me well and I love but this is the best I’ve ever tried. The shade is close to my original lipcolour but better. It is a rosy beige-nude that is the perfect balance between the rose and beige – it neither pulls too pink or too brown which is the exact type of nude lip shade I’ve been looking for.
Here is a look which I pulled together – it’s a look I’ve sported often these few weeks because I’m so happy with my purchases!
Base: MAC Prep+Prime Face Protect SPF50 PA++; Sofina Ange Long Keep Base
Foundation/Powder: Shu Uemura Face Architect Smooth Fit Fluid Foundation in #734; MUFE Full Cover Concealer in #12 & #14; MUFE Pro Finish in #127; Chacott Enriching Powder HD (as a finishing powder)
Eyes: NARS Eyeshadow in China Blue and Rajasthan (taupe shade); MAC Carefree Pro-Longwear Eyeshadow
Eyeliner: Solone Role Switching Liquid Eyeliner; Clinique Quickliner for Eyes Intense in Ebony (lower lash line)
Mascara: Shu Uemura Tokyo Lash Mascara
Cheeks: NARS Blush in Day Dream
Lips: NARS Cinematic Lipstick in Last Tango
If you haven’t checked out blush in Day Dream, you really might want to – it really is a beautiful shade that I think will flatter many skintones and really will suit different eye and lip looks. If Last Tango gets restocked, I’m tempted to buy a back-up – I stopped buying backups a long time ago so if something is tempting me to break the ‘no backup’ rule, then you can only imagine how much I love it!
Thanks for stopping by and have a great week ahead!
