Nailing It for Summer

By Luxe_life

Summer 2014 Nail trendsWith British summer time seeming to be here, the time has come to switch out my beauty routine as well as my wardrobe.

With the summer months bringing lighter, brighter outfits, I have picked out my three favorite nail trends for SS14 to compliment and step up your new season style.

Shades of Red for SS14
Shades of Red

Red is a timeless classic and will never go out of style, particularly when it comes to beauty, and a red lip or red nail adds a hit of instant chic to any outfit. The color spectrum of red is particularly broad and with the summer months comes the perfect excuse to experiment with shades of orange and pink, which are sometimes packed away during winter.

Summer is the time to break out the brights and Estee Lauder’s ‘Tumultuous Pink’ is a raspberry red tone that will add impact. For a playful bright with a subtle tone of orange, I love Essie’s ‘Peach Daiquiri’ which is almost made to be worn on holiday whilst sipping on its namesake cocktail.

For a completely different kind of pink, Nails Inc’s Princes Gate has just the right level of bubble gum and would look fab with your best summer denim cut offs.

On the orange side I love Chanel’s ‘Orange Fizz’ for a citrus bright and coral makes an absolute holiday classic. Tom Ford’s ‘Coral Beach’ is exactly what it says on its super- chic new summer bottle, a trip to a beautiful, sunny island; another color that looks great with a tan.

For a true summer red my favorite was Estee Lauder’s ‘Envious’ as it has the perfect balance of richness without being too deep, whilst the glossy formulation gives it a vibrant finish.

Nude nails for SS14
Summer Nudes

An all-year-round favourite, nude shades are chic whatever the weather or season, but during the summer months when our outfits are paler and our skin may be tanned, the milky hues really come into their own.

With shades ranging from a dusky pink like Chanel’s ‘Rose Cache’, a soft summer nude with a hint of pink through to the limited edition Paul & Joe ‘Lily’ which is an iridescent white, there is a shade for everyone no matter their taste or skin tone.

Burberry Mink for SS14 Nails
The two nudes in Tom Ford’s SS14 range would be notable additions to any collection. ‘Sugar Dune’ has pink undertones giving a fresh, clean finish for summer, whilst ‘Incandescent’ is a glamorous metallic bronze, best worn with a tan.

For those who want to do nude with a twist Illamasqua’s ‘Trilliant’ has a coarse sprinkling of silver glitter which gives a sparkling rose finish.

My pick of the best nude for summer would be Burberry’s ‘Mink’ which is a versatile shade of ‘greige’ that would look great with one of the brand’s iconic trenches.

Pastel Nails for SS14
Pretty Pastels

Summer is the ideal time to break out the pastels as well as the picnic baskets, as shades of childhood confectionary are one of the hottest trends of the season.

With candy like shades across the full color spectrum, now is the time to embrace the shade of your favorite Laduree macaroon and lighten up for summer.

Pretty pastels for SS14
The Dolls House collection’ by Ciate is the perfect entry to this trend with five shades of pastels with a powdery porcelain finish. ‘Sweet Pea’ is a gorgeous minty green with a chalk finish that keeps the color simple and understated.

Despite the name, Essie ‘Warm & Toasty Turtleneck’ should not be kept for the colder months. The polish is creamy lavender with a shine finish that would be the ideal finish to an all-white summer outfit.

A yellow painted nail can be quite a scary prospect, but if you are going to do it, now is the perfect time. Burberry ‘Pale Yellow’ runway shade should be your polish of choice, combining just the right amount of sunshine and a subtle semi matt finish this is a light hearted foray into unchartered color territory.

The easiest to wear of the pastel shades is pink and the new gel effect finish of the Nails Inc ‘Mayfair Lane makes it a failsafe summer choice. The color is a true match of your favorite fondant fancy, whilst the formulation is plump and glossy, making it much more hard wearing than your standard polish, making it ideal for holiday adventures.

I have been wearing Nails Inc’s ‘Little George Street’ since Easter and I am not ready to put it away just yet. A lovely dusky blue shade, this is another one that looks great with a tan or a white outfit and for summer I have been adding an accent nail with an overlay of their ‘Pop Art’ confetti polish for something a little different.
