My Pregnancy Journal: 16 Weeks

16 weeks pregnant bump

How far along? 16 weeks began on October 11, 2014

How big is baby? Now, he’s the size of an avocado, which is about 4.6 inches long and weighs about 3.5 ounces. The backbone and tiny muscles in his back are gaining strength, so he can straighten out his head and neck even more. And thanks to his developing facial muscles, Baby Jack is capable of making a few expressive frowns and squints, even at this early stage. His eyes are finally working too, making small side-to-side movements and perceiving light (although the eyelids are still sealed). (whattoexpect.com)

Weight Gain:

This Week: +0 lbs
Total So Far: +9 lbs

Body & Changes: I’m getting bigger, you guys!! I also have bigger, more impressive burps. I totally win all the burping competitions these days, and that makes me happy, because I’m secretly a child.

Backaches are making themselves known too, which really stinks. I just ride them out and try not to be still too long per day, and that’s helping out. So is stretching. I just need to be more diligent about stretching… And actually do it.

I stopped feeling like I NEED a nap during the day, which is awesomesauce, but by the time 8 p.m. rolls around, I’m over. Stick a fork in me, I’m done. Like, there’s no staying up any longer, and I get cranky and fussy, and once again, I’m secretly a child.

Exercise:
Walking. A lot. We went to the State Fair of Texas this week, and man oh man, 8.5 half hours of walking really wears a girl out!!

Clothes: Just getting tighter and tighter, but I’m starting to really notice how I am looking more PREGNANT and less ambiguously “larger.” This is a huge positive, and makes me smile.

I’m also obsessed with my maternity jeans I got last week. They’re the most comfortable things ever, and when I put on my normal pre-preggo jeans today, I looked down at my button and my zipper and thought to myself, “Ain’t no one got time for that!” Yep…

What I’ve been eating:

Cravings: Really cold juice, really cold oranges, Cracker Barrel sharp cheddar block cheese, fruit snacks (i.e. Fruit Roll Ups, Gushers, Fruit By The Foot, etc.), Chewy Chips Ahoy!

Aversions: None really, praise God.

I have really tried to maintain some semblance of healthy eating, so I’ve been eating a lot of apples, and incorporating a lot of fresh veggies with my meals, or as snacks, along with my sour cream and onion chips, fruit roll ups and other such indulgences.

Any Movement? None yet. Patiently(ish) waiting…

Sleep: Still pretty much non-existent, but not as horrid as it was last week. I’m only waking up between 1 and 3 times a night to pee, and maybe another time for a dream or whatever, rather than the 5-6 times I’d been waking up.

Emotions: Just when I’m really feeling like a truly balanced and stable individual, something out of the blue will happen and I’ll just be a heap of tears on the floor.

Here’s a great example. On Sunday evening, Michael and I stayed up to watch the Eagles v. Giants football game on TV (FLYYY EAGLES FLLYYYYY), and at one point during the game, the beloved Giant’s Wide Receiver, Victor Cruz, injured his knee, and ended up being removed from the game in tears, as he imagined his career going up in smoke. Oh. My. Gosh. If someone just walked into the room, they probably would have thought my kitties both ran away from home or something. It was awful. Tears. Every where. I don’t usually give a darn when a player goes down (how cold), but OH my gosh, ALL THE FEELS!!!!!!!!

Purchases: I broke down and bought an amazing diaper bag from StorkSak. Yes, I know there’s about five or six months until I will actually use the thing, but I saw it and could NOT contain myself. Any of you out there use a StorkSak bag? What do you think?

What I miss: I miss my old body. There have been times in the past week where I catch a glimpse of myself in a reflection on a window, or in the bathroom mirror after getting out of the shower, and I gasp. Whoa. My, how I’ve grown… Sometimes (most of the time) it’s really exciting, and I embrace the growing parts of me, but there are other times where I grieve.

What I’m looking forward to: Feeling Baby Jack move around in my belly. I also scheduled our 3D/4D ultrasound for the middle of November, and that is something I’m SUPER excited about. Oh man… I can’t wait to see his little face and body and all the cuteness that I’m sure he is.

Milestones: Looking more pregnant and less “too many doughnuts” bigger
