My First Apartment | My First Living On My Own Experience

By Heather Hahn @HeatherHahnn

Moving away from home, and starting to live on your own is never easy.

If you would have asked me 7 years ago, if I ever thought that I would live in California, by myself, and on my own, my answer would have most likely been, ‘No‘.

Not just because I didn’t want to leave home, but moving in general is very scary, a big step, and a huge change, especially if you’re moving across the country, by yourself, and you don’t know a single soul.

However, when I graduated high school at 17, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with my life, and where I wanted to be. I couldn’t see myself working at the local town mall, or doing a 9-5 job, driving home in a huge mound of snow for the rest of my life.

I knew that I wanted to be somewhere and live somewhere with warm weather, I knew I wanted to have a career in the entertainment industry, the fashion industry, or the music industry, I just didn’t know where I wanted to stand in those areas.

When I signed a lease, for my very first apartment in a city that I had never been to before, I didn’t really know what I was in for. I knew that the people were nice, the weather was great, the area was decent, but I didn’t know what living on my own was actually going to be like. I couldn’t call mom and dad to cook me dinner anymore, I couldn’t have my mom run to the store for something that I was in dear need of, nope, it was just me, and only me in a huge city living in a 1 bedroom apartment.

When I was approached by “Urban Compass” to share my experience about having my first apartment, and my first experience about living on my own, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity.

So here’s a little bit about my “FIRST APARTMENT/LIVING ON MY OWN” experience:

City: Hollywood, California

Apartment Size: 1 Bedroom

Apartment Amenities: Pool, Sauna, Hot Tub, Jacuzzi, Gym, Music Studio.

Decor Style: Lets just say for my first apartment, I was very, very, very basic.

Lease Term: 1 year

Experience: Don’t let living on your own be a scary experience or the thought ofgetting your first apartment/house. Just remember that you’re growing up, and your making positive choices towards a better future. In life, you’re going to have to be on your own at some point, so you’re just gaining the full-on experience, and you’re becoming more mature.

The best way to gain your full on independence is to live on your own.
