Musing Monday is a weekly event where MizB of Should Be Reading will ask a book/reading-related question, and I answer with my own thoughts on the topic.
QUESTION. Do you read books that are part of a series? Do you collect all the books in the series before starting? What if the series is brand new, and the only book that’s been published so far is book one? As subsequent books in the series are published, do you go back and re-read the preceding books?
ANSWER. It seems that most of the books nowadays are in series. I don’t have anything against those. I do love reading books in a series because it prolongs the excitement or thrill of the characters, the setting, the world as a whole especially if they are just wonderful. That’s why, sometimes, I tend to be impatient especially if the story is such a cliffhanger or a great read to reckon for.
I do collect books in a series if the story is good. But it doesn’t mean that I have to collect all the books first before reading them. It also exhausts me if I read books in a series without any breaks unless the series is as good as Harry Potter or The Hunger Games. In addition, not all the times books in a series are published at the same time. Obviously, most books in a series are published yearly so I won’t wait a year just to start reading them. Moreover, I don’t waste money on a series that doesn’t suit my taste but I do read book one first to justify if it’s good or not.
