Moong Dal Halwa
Ingredients
- 1 cup yellow moong dal (split yellow gram)
- 11/2 cup milk, warmed
- 1 1/4 cups sugar or to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon cardamom (elaichi) powder
- Pinch of saffron (kesar) strands
- 1/4 cup ghee
- For the garnish
- Few sliced almonds (badam)
Method:
- Soak the moong dal in water for 4-6 hours.
- Drain and grind to a coarse paste using very little water.
- In another pan heat 1/2 cup of milk and Add pinch of saffron and mix well .Switch off heat.
- Heat sugar and 1 cup water in another non-stick pan. Cook till sugar dissolves completely.
- Heat ghee in a broad pan melts the ghee. Add moong dal paste and mix well. Stir the mixture continuously on a low flame till it becomes golden brown.
- Add in the warm milk and 1 cup of warm water mix and cook, stirring continuously till all the moisture has been absorbed, cook on a slow flame till the ghee separates.
- Add the cardamom powder and saffron milk and mix well cook for 5-8 minutes.
- Garnish with slivers of almonds.
- Serve hot.
