Chad and I took a walk in the woods behind my Grandma’s house, below the Escarpment. This is a Trout Lily.
My cousin’s, brother and I called this our Pocahontas Village when we were kids. We each made our own shelter and then pretty much abandoned them. Most are still standing though.
Trillium erectum, also known as wake-robin, red trillium, purple trillium, Beth root, or stinking Benjamin. Not sure what that last one is about.
While stomping around in the forest, I saw some ice and snow in a small cave and thought I’d take a picture. I must say, I had a little freak out when I saw there was a porcupine in the cave! He/she must have been more afraid of us though.
Our haul of wild leeks (don’t worry, we got them with permission from our uncle’s property). I plan on making potato leek soup, leek pesto, pickled leeks and whatever else I can think of!
