Mom Day Weekend Part 2

By Laura @BEBookworm

MomLuna making friends with one of the ponies that live on the property behind my brother’s house.

DSC_0798Chad and I took a walk in the woods behind my Grandma’s house, below the Escarpment. This is a Trout Lily.

DSC_0800My cousin’s, brother and I called this our Pocahontas Village when we were kids. We each made our own shelter and then pretty much abandoned them. Most are still standing though.

Lots of wild leeks around. We didn’t find any morels though and the fiddleheads weren’t ready yet.

DSC_0805Trillium erectum, also known as wake-robin, red trillium, purple trillium, Beth root, or stinking Benjamin. Not sure what that last one is about.

DSC_0812

Trillium grandiflorum, Ontario’s provincial flower.
DSC_0810While stomping around in the forest, I saw some ice and snow in a small cave and thought I’d take a picture. I must say, I had a little freak out when I saw there was a porcupine in the cave! He/she must have been more afraid of us though.

weekendOur haul of wild leeks (don’t worry, we got them with permission from our uncle’s property). I plan on making potato leek soup, leek pesto, pickled leeks and whatever else I can think of!
