Misal Pav

Misal pav is very special dish in maharashtra, and very very special from Kolhapur. I remember I ate this  misal pav @ 'shri nath', Lakshmi road's restaurant ,pune which is very famous for misal pav.From that day, I was thinking that misal pav can be eaten only at that restaurant.
But now as I am trying some thing in my lazy kitchen, so I wanna give a try and searched a lot and came with following version.I made it on Sunday, and my hubby was eating misal pav for lunch and dinner both ;-)Trust me it is super delicious ;-) Give it a try.
Misal pav is mostly prepared in layer, I have mentioned them at the end of this post.
Misal Pav
Ingredients:
For paste:
1 cup chopped onion 1 cup chopped tomatoes 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste 1/2 cup grated dry coconut/ fresh coconut 2 tbsp oil
For curry:
3 tbsp oil curry paste 1 tbsp red chilli powder 1 tbsp garam masala 1 tsp turmeric 1 tbsp coriander powder salt as per taste
For matki usal
1 cup matki sprots 1 cup chopped onion 1 tsp asafetida 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste 1/2 cup boiled potato cubes(optional) 1 tsp turmeric 1 tbsp red chilli powder 1 tbsp garam masala 1 tbsp coriander powder salt as per taste
Pohe
1 cup pohe , soaked 1 green chillies 1 tsp mustard seeds 1 tsp turmeric salt as per taste
Batatyachi Bhaji
1 cup boiled potato cubed 2 green chillies 1/2 cup chopped onion 1 tsp turmeric 1 tsp cumin seeds salt as per taste
1 cup farsan
(you will get farsan in indian grocery shop/ this is like party snack little spicy and salty , you can get in walmart/no frills/bulk barn,etc. )
1/2 cup coriander for garnishing
Misal Pav
 
Instructions:
Make paste of curry/kat/tarri 1.Heat oil in pan and add ginger-garlic paste. 2.Add onion and saute for 2-3 minutes. 3.Add tomatoes and mix it well.Let it cook for 2-3 minutes. 4.Add grated coconut and cook it well for 5 minutes. Cool this mixture and make paste in grinder.
Make curry/kat/tarri
1.Heat oil and add this paste. 2.Add turmeric, red chilli powder,garam masala and coriander powder. 3.Cook this paste till it starts leaving oil at side. 4.Add water to make it curry .You can add more red chilli powder if you like spicy. (In traditional way, they add more oil so it will float on top of curry which gives very spicy looking texture.)   Make matkichi usal/sprouts curry
1.Heat oil in pan 2.Add ginger -garlic paste and asafetida. 3.Add onion and saute for 2-3 minutes till it become translucent. 4.Add turmeric, red chilli powder, garam masala ,coriander powder and salt. 5.Add potato and sprouts/matki and mix it well. 6.Add little water to cook for 10 minutes and take it in bowl.
Make pohe
1.Heat oil in pan and add mustard seeds. 2.As seeds crackle , add green chilli ,turmeric and soaked pohe. 3.Mix it well and cover the lid and cook for 5 minutes.
 Make batatyachi bhaji/potato vegetable
1.Heat oil in pan and add cumin seeds , green chillies. 2.Add onion and saute till it becomes translucent. 3.Add turmeric powder,salt and potato cubes.Mix it well. 4.Cover the lid and cook for 5 minutes.
Misal Pav
Misal pav dish prepared in layer like,
1.pohe 2.batatyachi bhaji 3.Matki usal 4.chopped onion 5.kat/curry/tarri 6.farsan 7.Garnish with corniander
But if you don't want to make it so complicated and be it in simple manner, prepare your misal pav as
1.matki usal 2.chopped onion 3.tarri/kat/curry 4.farsan
So, it will give you pleasure of having misal pav......ohhh...yummy dish.
Just don't forget farsan , I think it's key ingredient for misal pav ;-)
