We got involved with Galt's mini masterpiece challenge this month! For May's challenge it is the Van Gogh's Starry Night masterpiece, this famous piece of art was painted in 1889 which Van Gogh painted his night view from outside his room window, at Saint-Rémy-de-Provence (southern France). We printed this picture from the Galt Toy's website and the boys created their very own masterpieceLewis loves doing art, he often draws and colours and he wants to be a sculpture when he is older. Jacob also loves arts and crafts, and we often do crafts together. He is always colouring in and drawing. Therefore I knew the boys would enjoy this challenge.
Galt sent us the Sensational Sequins Kittens kit to take part in this art challenge, however Lewis (he unfortunately was not impressed) refused to touch the kit (he is an 11 year old boy). I attempted to encourage him to use the white and blue sequins, but still he wasn't having any of it, so Jacob jumped in to the rescue and said he would help Lewis complete it. They agreed between themselves that Lewis would color in the picture and Jacob would add the sequins.
Lewis started with the colouring in, using his coloured pencils. Once Lewis was done and the picture was completely coloured-in and he was happy with it, Jacob stepped in and finished the mini masterpiece by sticking the sequences:Finally the finished picture, completed by both boys - Jacob's and Lewis's version of the Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh. I hope you like it:You can also go to the Galt website and print your very own print out to create your very own masterpiece for a chance to win a fantastic arts and craft bundle worth £50. Each month, the template for a traditional masterpiece from the world’s most loved artists will be available to download from the Galt Activity Zone.
