This is my FIRST blog post of the new year and it happens to be on my 1 year Blogiversary!!!! YAY!
So happy to be here for a year, thanks for having me! :-)
Now for the goodies...
I'm going to let you in on a little secret...before I wanted to grow up and be Madonna, I wanted to be a Mermaid.
Yep, it's true.
I remember me & my BFF drawing pictures (some of which I still have) of blonde Mermaids on rocks & swimming in the ocean. I saw the movie Splash & that was it. I had to be a blonde Mermaid! Lol! My hair has always been long so every time I'd go swimming or take a bubble bath, I'd marvel at how my hair flowed in the water.
I've always had an ideal image of what a Mermaid should look like and it always involved long curly hair and green/blue glitter. Either on her fin , nails, face...or just in the reflection in the sea.
I started making a tutorial using Emerald because I read that it was Sephora's Pantone color of the year (last year was Tangerine) Green is not something I use a lot because with my coloring, it can go very wrong on me and I end up looking dead. Lol! Blue is that way too. These colors have to be very rich & deep, bright even, to wear well on me. I like a challenge so it doesn't stop me from loving them & playing just the same! Lol!
So I decided to make a tutorial playing with Green...then out of nowhere, the movie Splash came on!! *O.O*
I remembered how I had drawn 100's of beautiful Mermaids and how shimmery they looked. I decided my look would then turn into a Mermaid tutorial :-)
My original vision included a shimmery light pink lip with green sparkly eyes but then I went 2 steps further. I added a Bright Pink lip and then an Orangey/Gold option as well. Depending on the event, you could change the lip color & go anywhere with this!
I also let my natural curls come thru because in my vision, Mermaids always had long curly hair. I forget how wavy my hair is until I let it air dry & throw some mousse in it! Lol!
I used my Blue/Green/Yellow palette (that I'd made myself) so the shadows are mixed. I didn't write down all the names but you can use anything similar!
I also used a mix of blue & green rhinestones & Swarovski crystals on each side of my face
I had taken a picture of my eye & even though it came out blurry, i like it because it shows the glitter just the same
