Maya Angelou on ‘Finding My Voice’.

By Jenrene

Maya Angelou. poet, actress, writer –  shares how her voice came back to her after  being abused as a child.  She literally didn’t speak for years of her life. She talks about how now, when she decides to be silent as an adult, she has recognized how her tone changes  – and how sometimes life demands she speaks  louder, more firmer and more pronounced.

There are times when we  need to recognize how to  speak louder, more pronounced and even speak, period. she says :”Mutism is  like a drug, … you don’t have to do anything.”

Personally, there are times in silence I found myself being strong, but no one else knew me. I remember a very silent time in my life, and it was there, I was resurrected.   The silence seemed to still the world, if I could just hold onto it long enough. I didn’t  desire to come out again.  Yet then,  my life  shifted and the lessons were  more resonating and  my life demanded  I share the change with other women and with other people my stories of change and growth and I could remain silent no more.

What about you? are there times when you could not remain silent  and you had to speak?

Do you notice when your voice changed or was no longer silent any more?

Do you notice when you need silence to find yourself again?

Or…do you even stop to be silent  and still enough to notice?
