I first discovered beauty boxes from reading a multitude of beauty blogs and I’m sure most, if not all of you, have heard of Glossy Box which seems to be the most popular. If your not 100% sure of the concept I’ll just quickly explain it to you. Essentially you pay around £10 a month plus p&p to receive a box of surprise beauty goodies. Generally these beauty boxes contain a full sized product and a couple of miniature or sample size products. The cost to buy these products individually on the site is always significantly more than £10! You can cancel your subscription at any time if you find that it’s not really for you. Glossy Box, Carmine and Jolie Box are some of the most popular boxes available at the moment.
A lot of people seem to have fallen out of favour with Glossy Box recently but March’s box is a special collaboration with Harrods which I think will win a few people back! Anyway...on to Amarya.
The reason I decided to go for the Amarya beauty box over the others on the market was mostly because of the brands offered. Amarya only send organic, natural skin care and beauty products which is perfect for my super sensitive and allergy riddled skin!
Although this was the main reason for choosing Amarya it wasn’t the only one. Amarya charge £10 which includes p&p, unlike the other beauty boxes. They also always send a least one full sized product. I’ve heard a few complaints that Glossy Box sometimes fill their boxes with tiny trial sizes. You also get an exclusive beauty box subscriber only offer with Amarya. For March’s box it was 15% of any products from any of the brands that came in your box! Finally the packing is substance over style! Your box is cardboard and 100% recyclable and inside your products are protected with shredded pink paper which is also recyclable. It maybe isn’t as pretty or sleek as the other boxes but it fits in perfectly with the natural and organic theme of the products inside. My one criticism of the Amarya box is that you can’t create a “beauty profile” like you can with some of the other beauty boxes so the contents of the Amarya box doesn’t take into account things like your skin or hair type or colouring.
So what was in my box for March?
Full Size John Masters Organics Evening Primrose Shampoo for Dry Hair (RRP £16.00)
I’ve wanted to try John Masters products for a while now so I was really pleased to receive this item. I also have dry hair from years of colouring and straightening it so the fact the it’s the version which is specifically formulated for dry hair is ideal!
It smells great, very natural smelling which I know sounds strange, but you can tell that it has the natural smell of evening primrose oil rather than being full of synthetic fragrances. The consistency is quite strange, it’s very viscose and almost feels like an oil. After using this my hair does feel very soft and smooth but as my hair is super fine I think this will be too heavy for everyday use for me. I think I’ll be keeping it as a once a week special treat.
Full Size John Master Organics Lip Calm (RRP £6)
This reminds me so much of the Liz Earle lip balm. The consistency is exactly the same. It melts on your lips to a sort of oil-like consistency which is nothing like the waxy feeling of Vaseline or Carmex or any of that other rubbish which just sits on top of your lips. This lip “calm” smells delicious and contains lemon, lime and tangerine so it smells very invigorating and energising and just melts into your lips. I would definitely repurchase this at full price.
Trial Sized REN Bio Retinoid Anti-Aging Concentrate (Full Sized RRP £42 and it’s a brand new product from REN)
I’m in my 20’s and haven’t really thought about anti-aging products yet. This is where the “beauty profile” process would have come in handy! I’ve given this product a go anyway though. It’s a decent sized sample at the same size as the John Master’s Lip Calm stick. You could get about a weeks use out if this which is enough to give you a good idea of whether you’d want to buy the full sized version.
This is essentially a serum that you put on your face at night. It has a lovely scent of rose and fruit extracts and it blends beautifully in to your skin. In the morning my skin felt smooth and plump and I would definitely consider buying a different version of this serum in the full size. Perhaps the Clear Calm 3 Replenishing Night Serum would be more appropriate for my specific skin concerns.
Sample Size In-Light Organic Daily Face Oil (Full Sized RRP £25)
This is a very small sachet sample so you only really get two applications out of it. It’s intended as an everyday moisturiser which you can wear make-up over. It smells beautiful and I can make out vanilla, lavender and rose in it. I don’t think I would invest in a full size of this purely because I think an oil is too much for my skin for day time but it’s definitely piqued my interest in the In-Light brand and I’ll be taking a look at the rest of their range.
Do you subscribe to any beauty boxes? What do you think of the concept?
